Tangerine Dream not worth the risk

I love the hash oil I made with my tangerine dream.. Some of the best kicking oil I've ever had..

But the genetics to grow really sucked.. I knew a few people who had like 10-20% germ rates, and the same terrible genetics in flower.. Only 2 of 4 plants that grew for me were worth keeping, the others were mutated retards..

On top of that the flower stretch was 4-5x no joke, lasted for 25-30 days.. The whole flowering time was 86 for one plant and 114 for the other.. Insane.. And the buds were fluffy, foxtailed stretchy thin colas. I'm growing sour kush by reserva privada now and couldn't be happier.. Never again will I grow Barney's farm thanks to my experience with tangerine dream.

Get some BrainstormG13 haze, i just got gifted a 14 week flowering time heavy yielding pheno from clone, gonna be the longest flowering plant i've grown to date. The smoke is intense and beautiful, unique high/stone combo that wont put you to sleep. i want to cross it with a male Jtr if i get one, since jtr should help lower it's flowering time in the f1's.

Just an update... Mine popped the surface started growing well. It did NOT like being topped. It came to a crawl after and still much smaller than I had anticipated. Its a week in flowering now, started showing hairs yesterday.

Im just over 70 days now, slight signs of it beginning to come into harvest, I recon maybe 2-3 weeks more... Yields so far look low, bud sites are few and far between, although what is on the small sites is starting to fill in a bit...

I had a tangerine dream seed that I put in a paper towel and it never cracked :(

Being completely ignorant to everything cannabis related, I truly believed that the most recent cannabis cup winner was obviously the best bud in the world. I've learned so much in a very short time...

Hey all, new to this forum, but wanted to provide my input on Tangerine Dream. I ordered 7 different strains (5 - 6 of each), and TD was the only strain to not grow. 4 of the 5 showed tap roots after 36 hours of soaking, then 2 of those 4 began pushing their root tip out. 1 of those remaining 2 just stopped growing and it's root tip disconnected from the seed head. The last one did the same this morning about an hour ago. So of my 7 strains, 38 seeds total, all 5 TD's have now failed, and only 2 of the other 33 seeds failed. So 31 successful out of 38, with 5 of the 7 duds being Tangerine Dream. Barney's Farms doesn't respond to emails, so I guess I out $60 bucks. Based on some quick internet research, I find I'm not the only one having this problem with this strain from them. I personally won't buy ANY strain again from Barney Farms - there are too many good seed companies out there to accept this kind of service/quality (lack of) from BF. Hope this helps others avoid the loss.
because you soaked the seeds you most likely Drowned them. With fresh seeds there's no need to soak them. Go to Mandala Seeds and read their germination method. I ve never had any issues with Barney s seeds. Done TD violator Kush vanilla Kush all with 100% germination. In the past with non fresh seeds the soaking method was used to soften the outer protective husk or shell. With new seeds there is no need to do that

Growing TD right now and honestly ive put this plant through hell and back. It spent its first 2 weeks in 1/3 of a 473ml container. Had severe stunting and almost every nute problem you could think of along with always being the farthest away from the light. Now since ive repotted it in some promix and pretty much keep it towards the back and its the healthiest thing out there. Its around two feet tall and half of that is one solid cola and it still hasnt bulked up yet. It smells like its name, a dream. side branching is great and has decent sized nugs on them all. The biggest down side is its going to be a long flower and if i didnt end up screwing it up so much i could see it being a huge tree fast.View attachment 2049284View attachment 2049285View attachment 2049286View attachment 2049287

to the guy that started this thread go to this site. Been growing since 1975 and used to use the soaking method until about 10 years ago when we started getting fresh seeds. We were getting poor germination rates with them and ran into Marc Emery at Sagamanta seeds when he worked there and he said "don't use that old school method with these fresh seeds you'll drown them." Do it this way...which we've been using since and overall have close to a 96% germination rate. Do it anyway you want but we know this method works but of course everyone has their own opinion...

http://www.mandalaseeds.com/Guides/Germination-Guide

Soaking seeds in water/wet paper towels is a method which can be used for old seeds (3+ years) that are drying up and losing germination power; and for pure land race equatorial strains such as from Africa. Both factors do not apply to our seeds. Fresh seeds have a healthy embryo whose cells are filled with water. But excess water causes the cells to bloat, depletes oxygen and leads to the tissue rotting away before the seed embryo can germinate. Old seeds have lost water in the cell tissue, the embryo starts to shrivel, which is why germination rates drop the older the seeds are. Therefore, old seeds (ie. 3+ years) can soak up more water before adverse conditions cause them to rot. This is one of the main reasons why various seed stock reacts differently to pre-germination methods. Some growers make the mistake of soaking our seeds in water for up to 1-2 days because it may have worked in the past with other seeds. This does not mean, however, that this method can be used for all seeds. In fact, old stock or equatorial cannabis seeds should only be soaked in water for a few hours at the most. Always consult the web site of a seed bank for specific advice and instructions on how to germinate their seeds.
It is in a growers best interest to choose a germination method with the lowest risk of complications. Because we want customers to have the highest success rate possible we recommend the most convenient and safest method. This does not mean it is the only option. We simply believe it carries the lowest risk for germinating fresh seeds. Planting seeds directly in the substrate is also the most plant friendly method for any type of seed stock. The reasons are explained below in paragraph 2 & 3.
Placing healthy & fresh seeds in water/wet tissue can lead to the development of fungi or bacteria on the seed hull. Lack of oxygen and contaminating substances in the water/wet tissue promote fungal growth which can be transported to the substrate later on. Often the seed simply rots away if left for too long in a glass of water, or wrapped up in wet tissue.

Once the seed sprouts in a glass of water or paper tissue it already has the taproot growing out of the cracked seed hull. While transplanting the germinated seed it is very difficult, indeed impossible, to prevent damage to the delicate taproot. Many sprouted seedlings handled in this way show retarded development, or even simply fail to appear out of the substrate after transplantation. Handling seedlings this way can impair the health & vigour of the plant for the duration of it’s life cycle - especially if other disturbing factors occur during the early stages of growth.

Professional horticulturists rarely use pre-germination methods to actually grow out the seedlings because of the shock suffered from transplanting them. For example, we use the paper tissue method only as a quick test for germination rates of aged seed stock from our genetic repository. This allows us to see beforehand how many seeds we have to put in soil to get the amount of plants we require for breeding projects.
Germinating cannabis seeds is not difficult. All you need is some basic information on what is important and everything should work out fine.

I bought two TD seeds from Barney's and one sprouted, the other one never did. I planted in May of last year and its already the middle of February and I'm still looking at about another two weeks before chop time. I bought this strain because of the short flowering time advertised by Barney's. I hope the smoke is well worth the wait.
