ok we are talking different materials now Mylar is a good material to use and there is a huge difference between mylar and other "foils" used..... you also notice with mylar and other "foils" that there are huge differences in heat kept inside the grow area...... man you can use Panda paper which is building wrap.... it all works but for safties sake *since tinfoil can conduct electricity as well as short out a light* use something other then metal foil.

"Look at mylar or foil rooms. The *ALUMINUM* isn't shining at most angles...(it takes an angle equal/opposite to the light being struck from the source). This is good. This means the light is being DIRECTED towards the plant like a LASER BEAM with a properly shaped reflector. It is not being DIFFUSED. It is not being SPREAD around the room like a bong at a frat party(white paint)."
yes the foil will direct the light at an equal angle in which it is hit... but if that angle makes that light go into an area where more light is hitting it creates more heat in that area... if you read what I have posted it says it creates hot spots... and hot spots are not a good thing.... wel if you ask me..... means you never have a stable temp in your grow area... or doesn't it?

and I don't see anywhere in the faq where it says anthing to do with cfl's being superior to HID's they give a VS page saying heat for hid and other things like that...

I don't use CFL's or flouro's I use a HPS from seed to flower... get more lumen per sq outta hid then anything else.....

Mylar can actually leak light. Solid foil doesn't.

There is no extra heat created. Energy in = energy out. Simple as that.

Hot spots are a myth. I've used aluminum foil. I've never experienced this 'phenomenon'.

Look on the halogen page. It claims a 80w CFL is equal to 500w halogen. Do the math with the PAReff. HID, as I recall, was 1.38 PAReff. CFL would be over 1.6 PAReff.

I don't think highly of using HPS solely. No disrespect to you, of course. Even incandescents in numbers will grow plants.

your not supposed to use halogens to grow either. they emit more heat than usable light.

If your using tinfoil and halogens then you should stop growing and definitely stop giving advice. your going to burn your house down.
