Yeah I may try with that wheel actually. I think I have spare spokes around here somewhere. But for now, I’ll probably just get a new wheel all together. Something with some heavier gauge spokes.

ACTUALLY, I spoke to someone who rode from Canada to Mexico, and he told me that once you get all the weight of the bags on your bike, it’s hard to lean it against things without it wanting to fall over.

He said that having a kickstand made life eternally easier when just jumping off the bike quickly to do anything. Said it was always a production trying to find something to lean his bike against if he needed to dismount for any reason.

So I can take it off any time I want, but I’m gonna try outfitting the bike with the kickstand for now because I don’t wanna lay the weight of my bike down on my pannier bags when they’re on the rack

Yeah I’m gonna get a heavy duty wheel this time. The one that popped spokes was the cheapest option I could find like 5-6 weeks ago, but I’m gonna invest in something a little sturdier now, since that rear coaster brake isn’t designed to stop that much speed or weight.

Ignore me, I just wanted to mess with you a little about the kickstand. Might want to consider a stand that's connected to the chainstay rather than behind the bb so the weight in your panniers are better supported. They're a little safer too if it happens to come down over rough terrain.

Are the wheels on your beach cruiser 26"? Jensonusa has a sale on right now for dimension 26" 32 spoke count wheel for $49

I might get a different kickstand, but right now I’m gonna see if the free one works...lol

Yeah, they’re 26 inch wheels, but it needs to be a rear wheel with a coaster brake, not just any wheel. I’d check but I’m not on my computer atm

No it's a freehub, a quick search and it doesn't look like jenson or nashbar carry that type of wheel.

Those brakes are hella fun... who needs modulation? Lock it up!

Yeah, those brakes are sketchy as fuck to say the least. And they make for a slightly more expensive wheel.

I dunno if that particular beach cruiser was the best choice for an electric kit, so might be changing it up soon. It was really just a quickly thrown together project to see if I enjoyed ebikes, and now it may be time to move past it.

Going by that video you shared last week a beach cruiser fits it perfectly.

This might work for you. Steel with 36 spokes.

A cruiser fits the parade, sure. But that’s not the primary purpose for having the bike.

And thanks, I’ve found a few sources online for heavy duty coaster brake wheels for about 40-50 shipped. But I’m not in any huge rush at the moment. I have my daughter Tuesday’s and Wednesday, so I’m just chillin. I can get a wheel locally for less than $40 if I just want something to ride the parade on Sunday.

But heard another twang on Sunday when I was like 5+ miles from the car, and the wheel picked up a wobble. So I knew it was the spokes. Sure enough, I found a couple busted ones, and then busted a couple more on the way back to the car. Oops, haha

So that wheel is toast, but I think it’s all gonna result in a fun project...lol

I feel it brother, whatever it takes to get out there riding. If you want any suggestions, I’ve been looking at(and buying) a lot of cheap big box and department store bikes lately

anybody buy from bikesdirect.com? i bought a fantom AL 29er for $899 last year. the frames are just meh but the components are top notch. SRAM, rockshox, etc.

@Metasynth do you know anything about thru axles? I went for a ride on the lake and when I got back to the car I couldn't open the axle. A guy tried too and it won't budge. Back one still works so I could fit it in the car.

I wish I knew! If that happened to me, and brute force didn't work, my next step would be google. I don't know enough about more modern bike parts, I remember when quick release fittings first came out...lol

I've been looking at their bikes for a while. For right now, I don't feel comfortable on anything that doesn't have a steel frame, but when I drop some weight I will give that site a closer inspection

i would try gently with a pair of pliers and see if you can budge it. i wouldn't give it too much force though.

i've been on that site for a few years but never pulled the trigger. then i ran into a guy riding around on one and i asked him if i could give it a quick spin and he let me. i was sold after that and bought one finally. the 29er was a bit getting used to at first but now it's really easy to ride. i'm 6'2" (6'5" in heels) lol. and about 215 but it handles my lard ass fine.

Google saved me, the axle has a 10mm hex slot on the opposite side that you can use to unscrew it. A couple scratches but it's out! I should probably do a better job of lubricating, the cam barely opens when not under load.
