I love how people think you can just MOVE to another country and you won't have to deal with America any more. Oh how wrong those people are, you have ANY idea how hard it is to expatriate your self and how expensive it is? You CAN live where ever you want, but you WILL still pay taxes and have to endure a shit load more scrutiny not to mention how many foreign banks want nothing to do with Americans and the ever feared IRS.
I have known plenty of black people, had quite a few as friends in the military. My best friend growing up was 1/2 white 1/2 black. I am about as white as you can get english/irish. I can tell you this much, skin color makes not a difference in how well someone can do something or how educated one might be. Its all about the society they grew up in, in the hood there are lots of bad influences and those few who were able to escape become much different than their peers who stay. Just like there is a big difference in the Native Americans who live on the Reservation and those Who live in the city. Ever notice that plenty of folks from little towns in the deep south and Midwest seem to be about the biggest hicks you ever met? Most of the biggest hicks are white trash, and white trash is EVERYWHERE!!!
Many Blacks who grew up in the city seem to be terrified of deep water and swimming, then the blacks who grew up in the country are great swimmers and aren't afraid at all. Where you grew up and how you were raised.
Im telling you , its more about where you came from IMO than what your skin color is. I might be prejudice though since I never met a black person who was an asshole to me either, but have had plenty of incidents with white trash.
I feel for you dude cuz I also see how Blacks get some built in resentment from a lot of whites, I don't think you can chalk it up to racism every time, there are lots of whites who are just fucking dumb and just have no experiences with blacks at all, their parents kept them segregated and so they act like they are superior sometimes. Some people resent affirmative action, even I can see how that might piss people off to lose a promotion over race. And because blacks get treated this way quite often, they become hypersensitive to it and perhaps sometimes infer racism when none is actually there. I do know one thing for sure, black people bleed the same blood as everyone else. Inside we are exactly the same color, pink.
Tell me how annoying it is when white people talk like they are black, you know with the Ebonics and stuff and all the slang terms. I always felt it was very rude when dumb whites did that shit, and I kinda felt like the black guys really resented it. What is your view?

I think the best possible exercise is to ask yourself honestly where you would be coming from if you were the opposite race. I admit I would probably be a black radical. I'm not saying that would be right, but that's probably what I would be.

This is a generalization. "They" are not all the same. This is an example of why.
There is nothing genetic here with the exception of skin pigment. It's environmental and not all of any race comes from the same environment. It's wrong to characterize yourself or any other.

Brown v. Education (1954) was the first real bite out of segregation. It took many more years to break down Jim Crow laws and other state laws supporting segregation.
- Civil Rights Act of 1964
- Voting Rights Act of 1965
- Anti-miscegenation Ruling by Supreme Court (upholding interracial marriage) 1967
- Fair Housing Act 1968
This is not ancient history.
It is also important to note that the loosening of segregation coincides with the collapse of factory work in the US. Many immigrants faced segregation and 'racism' when they came to this country, but they all had plenty of factory jobs that paved the way out of the ghetto and into middle class life. Once blacks had the legal opportunity to achieve middle class, the economic opportunities mostly disappeared.
Laws that are effectively racist persist: sentencing differentials between crack and other cocaine, harsher sentencing for drugs within a mile of a school (which make all drug sentencing in cities harsher because schools are so close together), etc.
Sure everyone is responsible for their own life, but it is short sighted to say that race 'has no meaning.' It has had legal meaning up until about 40 years ago, and still has a lot of social meaning. Anyone remember the Willie Horton ads in 1988? The race card is still played in many elections to inflame the electorate.

I would guess that you are making a comparison between the social and economic outcomes of blacks with Jewish people. There is at least one significant difference: Jewish people were able to maintain their language, faith and culture when they were enslaved. African slaves came from a variety of faiths and cultures, and were forbidden from maintaining those ties. That is why there have been so many efforts to restore some sense of culture in black society: from Kawanzaa to Hip-Hop.

Here's my 2 cents......I love when I hear people say I dont belong here(America) and This is not my land! Well guess what bro? This is not our land either (speaking for myself as an italian latino german)!!!! This land belongs to the Native americans (indians)! We stole their land! None of us technically belong here! We did not chose to be here either. We were all placed here by our ancestors. Another funny thing is when people say the white man started slavery....BULLSHIT.....

Really? Jews that came from Europe to America maintained their language? Besides...what does Kwanza (sp?) have to with economic outcome? I will conceed that blacks faced tougher discrimination back "then", however, at this point it's time to rock and roll. The Jewish success story was bred out of environment...not genetics for the simple reason...noone would hire them. It was out of neccesity.

I guess I just spent a lot of time in Brooklyn. But yes, particularly as immigrants, many if not most Jewish people maintained their language. It is still maintained through Bar Mitzvah celebrations.
Jewish people take great pride in their heritage, and frequently credit their economic and social success as a people in that heritage-- necessity or not. Blacks have not had that particular tool in their tool box.
You may think that 40 years is enough time for a huge population of poor individuals to pull themselves up. I just don't think that's realistic given the economic realities that low income families face today.

I never said that. However, I don't by any means think it's hopeless. All I said was "I wanna go back to Africa" attitude was not productive. Others have made it.
