Temperature/ventilation - problems/soultions

this thread was developed to assist information seekers in finding a solution to their temperature / ventilation problems.

i have had temp problems in the past and am currently having a problem with heat.. i usually find a way to fix the problem, as im sure most others do.
this thread is a place to post your past or present problems, possible solutions, verified solutions and any questions/answers regarding temp control and/or ventilation/exhaust. ..

for example:

in my first Veg Chamber i was experiencing high temps. it was expected, however, because i was using a Washing machine (see MY GROW in my signature).. i rectified this problem by cutting a larger exhaust hole and mounting a desktop fan to the hole..

my current situation =
i am using a hand-me-down 430 HPS.. therefore, i am using a reflector that is not very good with heat distribution and has no was of hooking exhaust directly to it. to help aid the exhaust of the heat i purchased a 265 CFM blower to suck out any heat and ran ducting from the blower to the hood ( see pic ) i am still having heat issues and would greatly appreciate any help in how i could modify this reflector to reduce the heat
----please dont say ENCLOSE IT WITH GLASS AND HOOK THE EXHAUST TO IT...
i already know that much.. the specifics is what im interested in.. im hoping to find a number of people that are/have been in the same situation and hearing their remedies of said issue..

ps... my temps have topped out at 92 degrees! thats just horrible.. if i could bring it down to 85 i would be happy... i am considering adding a portable AC such as the pic below but im hoping that it wont be necessary for a 7 degree drop in temperature.. im fairly certain that proper hood ventilation is all i need. but buying an enclosed hood is just as much money as buying a whole new set up

i had that problem when i first started my grow room so i put the ballast outside of my grow room and the temps are 75 to 85 just the way i like it lol. but really try putting the ballst outside the room. good luck

thanks for the reply.. i do have a remote ballast ( which i have outside the room and i have the exhaust thats being blow out of the room blowing over the ballast to keep it cool ) .. i appreciate the help ( if my ballast was in the room im sure that removing it would give me 5 -7 degrees which would be perfect ) but thats not the case... i am in south florida and the temp is about 85 outside... and thats not even close to what the summers gonna bring.. we see 100 with no problem.. im beginning to think that AC is the only alternative.. but im sure there's someone out there in my same situation that has a sollution.. just patiently waiting to hear it..

if u look at the pic u see just the reflector and a cord running up the top left.. that cord goes to the ballast..

I have the same cheapie reflector 65$ special. Works good tho for the price.
Do you have central air? If you do split off one of your ducts and into your chamber. I use my heat/air for temp control. Only downside is my house is heated by my grow room temp . But i would rather me be cold/warm than my babies.

Also try lowering the temp in the rest of the house if thats not possible Your bound to find a good spot on the thermostat.

you need a way of cooling the vent that brings the fresh air in. im in boston so its cold here witch helps cool my room. how about hooking up the vent that sucks the hot air out to your hood?

again.. thanks for the reply.. but... i plan to hook a carbon scrubber to this system when in flower.. therefore i need the reflector to be completely sealed with and intake and an exhaust ( so it goes - Scrubber > Light intake > Light exhaust > Exhaust fan> out )

the reflector cant have any air leaks or stinky air will get out..
i may need to buy a new reflector or an AC.. im leaning toward the AC cuz its hot in my basement anyway/ / but if i could fix it without adding anything new that would be great

I had the exact same issue and honestly i ran across a add on craigslist and ended up with a reflector with glass and built in 6" inlet/outlets and it dropped the temps by 10 degrees in the room so much I had to throttle back my 6" fan and add a heater=)... I had a setup just like yours before and was having alot of issues...

ive got a 10 by 12 grow room is a 8 inch exhaust to much

well to figure that what u would want to do is multiply the width x height x length.. then u have your cubic feet ( CFM rating is on the fan ) so if u have a 495 cfm fan u will be refreshing a room the size of 495 cubic feet every minute
