temperature vs correct lamp

I've got seedlings that are about 4 inches tall and two weeks old. They're under a 220W 6400K CFL getting 19 hours of day and doing fine but I'm worried about the temperature. The overnight temperature is getting down to about 52F (11C). Which would be a better option: upping it to 24 hours of day or putting them under (and very far from) a 400HPS 2400K light? Or something else still... Any suggestions are appreciated.

Trial and error, or very good ventilation. Every room is different. I just had to move my grow, the new room gets so hot I've got both windows wide open with my 1000 watter, fans pulling air in and it's still close to 80. This is a country house with no one around but it's been awful cold here and still having heat issues.

You can grow under 24/0 just fine, but you better figure out how to keep the temp stable before you flip because then the darkness really is important.

Best option would be to get a metal halide bulb (conversion bulb if necessary) and veg them under that. I use one of the oil radiator heaters in my grow area. You can get one for about 40 bucks and they are really safe since they dont have any types of open flames, vapors, or really hot areas.

52f isnt going to hurt your plants especially if its dark and as long as temps are maintaining a good 70's range while lights on your fine.

there many places on this thing we call earth that the normal summer time night temps are around 50 ish and people still grow outdoor just fine. I have subjected my plants to 25F night time temps and they seemed to be just fine after a week (early frost where i live)

Thanks for the tips. Looks like the daytime temp is about 68F. May look into getting an electric heating pad.
How bad would it be to veg them under the flowering HPS light?

not bad at all
also - that 400 would be fine within 15 or 20 inches assuming air movement exists

They will grow like crazy with HPS but they will also have wide gaps inbetween nodes. You end up with much more popcorn buds.

popcorn buds?
Small marble size buds.

When you have tight nodes the buds grow and swell and bump into each other forming one big bud. The further the nodes are apart the less they bump into each other so you have smaller chunk buds instead of a big damned fat lump bud.

Just change the light cycle, ie, allow the light to run during the coldest part of the night and be off and in night cycle during the warmest part of the day
