Hey, I am looking for some advice on setting up another grow tent. I currently have a 2x4 tent with a 400w HPS, A simple inline fan exhausting into the room, but this will change soon.

I am wanting to setup a 4x4 tent and was wondering what sized light you guys would recommend.I was thinking a 1000w or 600w HPS. Would this be too much? I don't plan to use A/C other than that of the house Central A/c Unit vented into the room. The Tents' Intake will be that from the room, and the exhaust will be pushed outside. And I need to know a decent fan to exhaust this space fairly well. Smell isn't much of an Issue. I live far from anyone, and have very fragrant plants, bushes, and trees close by all year long.(I have the window exhaust planned out already) Do you think the 600 or the 1000 would work better? Take heat, plant growth, tent size, etc into account. I like the SoG method best, but would like to have a plant or 2 that I play with training methods.

Any Input is appreciated. Please don't just say "If you read, the info is out there" If it is, please link it. I have searched this forum over and over many times since I joined. I am more of a listener than a talker. So, please include links and information to help me make my decision. And I LOVE all of your opinions. Newbs and veterans alike. Thank you!

Also, I was thinking 1000w mainly because I wanted to leave the light a bit higher and not have to move it as much. Is this a stupid Idea? I currently keep my 400w about 6-10 inches away from the tallest plant.

I'm kinda facing the same issue in a 4x4 I think a 1000 is too big that's why I came on here because I'm facing the issue that i feel like my xxxl hood and 1000 watt system might be to big for a 76x76x76 I mean it would work fine in there I just feel like I could do more space and that size tent will bring me down. I've been debating too get the tent or build and room 8ft by 6.5ft I feel like I could and more plants but I don't want to lose to much reflective light.

any suggestions....?

if using a 1000w make it air cooled, they generate a shit tonne of heat!.

personally i would go for a 600w adjust-a-wing reflector with a 6"rvk fan and 6" rhino filter.

if you use the easi-rolls it is very easy to adjust the height of your light, it takes seconds.

I am wanting to use Adjust a wing reflector. That is what I have in my 2x4 tent and like it. So, I think I may go Either 2X 400w or 2x 600w. Any more tips and advice?

Well like u said u don't grow bud so thank for trying I've used a lot less light and produced top shelf product in the same size area so that is why I feel the need too increase the room by at least two ft for the 1000 watt system. And u must not know or understand just how much a 1000 watt bulb produces that's that's a cat of 5,200k and a lumens of 140,000 which is huge difference. And of course money is an issue....it doesn't grow on a tree like herb and I'm not Bill Gates. But ya 4 400watts would give a lot of light but u can't say that a 1000 watt system isn't enough light to grow bud or anything in that case.

Do you think 4X 400w are necessary for a 4x4 Tent? or do you think 2 400w or 600w lights would work? I am a bit excited to use the 400w because I want to use some HPS lamps, and some CMH (NOT MH). For a bit different spectrum. Thoughts?

What do you think it would take to get the heat out of there? (Using adjust a wing reflectors)

A duct blower would work very well to pull the air out. for general exhaust you want something that will move all of the air from your room out in about 5 minutes. To control heat it is better to move it faster than that. All inline fans have a cfm rating. For example, I use 435 cfm fans, moving 435 cubic feet of air per minute. Exhaust out of the room and circulation within the room can produce good results.

Thank you for the information. Any other advice or tips? I have always been an outdoor guerrilla grower, and have played with many things to bring the garden indoors year round. And I am finally going to do it right.

I have read multiple times that 600w hps is more efficient than 1000w hps, but I have never used either. If you just buy 1 light for 4x4 tent, 1000w... otherwise 2 600w would be better. I would rather run three 600w than four 400w.

You will most likely need air cooled reflectors.
