The cable guy says my grow is messing with the internet?

Everything makes this "Noise" he heard on the lines.
Cell, cordlessphones, microwave, ton of stuff.

NO Cable Techs Here? Really?

Most devices will display a notice, this device will cause possible interference blah blah blah.

Was your Equip Properly Grounded? Yes the 3rd prong is important. Not just the ballast but the Exhaust system should also be on a Surge Protector, Not just Power Strip.

Do Cable lines need Grounding? Absolutely! Often times the copper wire for grounding the Cable line comes off.

Being not properly grounded, all equipment could create Interference that could be classified as noise.
A Filter could have been placed on the line to stop such frequencies (only the higher freq).

If there was a problem with the lines (Cable) I would have played stupid, brought my Network from its wall mounted location and had the Tech check it in my living room, not my Netwerk/Computer room, not my ladies basking in the sun room.
My Whole Netwerk is within 5' of my ladies area.

Do I blame you for Starting up the disposal, Hells Nah.
Could your problem be as simple as a shitty Coax line, YES.
Guitar players with shitty cords can receive CB, 2-way radio, and FM, all kinds of interference. For a guitar player it could be the cord or plugs.

I hope this bit on Radio Interference helps someone.

running it all through a UPS would probably fix it... I used to use a line conditioner with my audio equipment to remove feedback from some AC/DC converters. If you need an excuse, say you keep salt water corals or aquatic plants. I know many many people running 1000-2000 watts in aquarium lights. I have a tank drawing 1200 watts on the same circuit as my grow, in fact the tank kinda hides the fact that there's a grow behind it :) The hobbies pair well, they have similar requirements. Invite your neighbors over to see your killer reef tank, and they will never ever raise questions about any of your grow related activities, they will just assume it's aquarium related.

I work in telecommunications and have run into electronic interference before. Make sure your cable splitter is grounded and see if you can find a ferret (sp?) core to put around you cable feeding your house. A ferret core is a cylindrical magnet that blocks EFI. It might take care of it. Grounding is a big deal. Everything will work fine if it’s not grounded until there is interference.

another good reason for medical cards would be car accidents i believe
if you were in an accident and you were injured, went to the hospital and its on a record, say it hurts again, thats just some extra stuff to back up your pain and/or pain induced insomnia.

Ballasts produce RF interference. It's something lots of folks overlook, but it's there.
bingo. i was going to ask whether the ballast was magnetic or digital. i may or may not have worked in the cable industry for several years ;-) but the amount of rf caused by household appliances is always overlooked. and someone made a comment about the ballast only being able to fuck with a radio and that is plain and simple bs. microwaves, fridges, even cable boxes and modems themselves can and do cause electromagnetic interference. sometimes the answer is as simple as moving the modem to a different outlet. just make sure you understand how the splitters should be configured. contrary to popular belief, you can't run a thousand outlets off a 3 way split configured any old which way and expect everything to work correctly.

Okay, so I moved my modem 30 feet away with about 4 walls between it and the ballast, and plugged it into a new outlet. Before the light/ballast/modem were litteraly a foot apart. I also have wrapped the ballast and cord in tinfoil, turned the light back on and put my wife's tomatos and basil in there. I tried to call the cable company's IT department to check if the noise was back, but they said only the field techs can see it, so I guess I sit and wait to see if they come back.

I'll let you know if this fixes the issue!

you should just quit growing all together if your that paranoid
Yeah, till one of us gets a card. For the moment though we can use it for an indoor garden. We're also moving to Cali next year, so if prop 19 passes I'd like to know how to avoid future cable "noise". It's worth trying to figure out at least.

What is the easiest way to check for too much RF noise? Would putting an AM/FM clock radio a few feet away and listening to various stations be a good test?

I did that. I used an AM station and as soon as the light came on it turned into complete static.
I tested mine and AM and FM still worked. There might have been more noise between stations, but once it had the signal, the sound was pretty clean. This is an ancient clock radio, nothing digital about it. So I'm thinking mine isn't too bad.

Probably not. I got mine hella cheap in a package on ebay. No brand name or anything. I'm sure it has no shielding of any sort, unlike the name brands.

vote no on 19 damnit!!!!

VOTE YES on Prop 19!!!.. only people who want it voted no are just as greedy as the men in suits in washington DC.. dont turn into the ones that made all this illegal in the first place.. It is what is best for the whole state! or country in the future..

I can only seeing the ones who own collectives voting no on prop 19 because they would make less money.. honestly.. I could care less about YOU making money.. and more about what is RIGHT for all of us.

We have a HARD LETHAL DRUG out on the market right now if you want to go crazy and bonkerz, yes.. it is ALCOHOL!! so instead vote NO on alcohol...what ever prop that is.. lol
