The cheapest grow ever?

Week 5 pics. Bought some pots and Pro Mix that cost $50 total. These pots can actually drain, LOL.

$50 is nice for a grow, i'm at $150 for my setup right now, at this point the only thing i have to do is buy soil to keep my grow going, and also re-use the soil i do have in further grows, so my total investment drops significantly.

@zoic honestly those look younger than 5 weeks to me, but then again i dunno the germ date.

Well I put the seeds in paper towels on the eve of Jan 18, and planting happened on Jan 21. They got off to a slow start and were just stringing out until I fixed that problem.

$50! Holy shit! You're not even in the realm of cheapest grow ever! :bigjoint:

OK, but that is just for starters, to see if I can even grow successfully. Come flowering time I hope to have a completed area with ventilation, maybe a carbon filter rig up of some sort. And lots more soil when I transfer to the larger pots and nutes. Yeah, I am far from done.

Thanks for your candid opinion. I have to agree completely. I have seen plenty of picks from other growers at day 15 to day 21, most look bigger and fuller than mine do at 5 weeks.

I have added a small heater in the closet because the temps feel like they are lower than 20C.Today I am adding a small fan at the bottom to get some air flow. Tomorrow I am going to pick up and few inexpensive thermometers.

I put the fan in yesterday and turned the heater up a bit more. This morning I was like a balmy Miami day and I swear a few plants grew more than an inch over night. The seeds I was germinating had the paper towel all dried out so I moved it away from the front of the fan to higher up where the plants are. I really need that digital thermometer my wife ordered online, but it is not due until next Monday.

put a regular one in there that is not, so you can keep track, at least it would work till the new one gets there.

you know what goofy, i don't even have one in mine...lol...awkward

I had an indoor/outdoor one last year, just cannot find it. I am not worried about it being too warm at this point vs. too cold. I will just wait out the delivery for the one my wife ordered.

And week 6 pics are up. Also threw in one for one side of my grow closet setup, and the 6th plant since it is looking better now. Other than that my 4 mystery seeds still have not popped, been germinating since last Wednesday afternoon, admittedly in a cold cupboard for the first few days.

very nice, i would move those ones that haven't germed to a warmer area. I like doing mine in the closet i have with the other, especially old unknown seeds this way it gets train the the warmed and to the lights. That's just me though. BTW i 've had 100% germination by doing that.

I finally have a thermometer and litmus paper. I tested the tap water and it looks like it is a solid 7. I am putting the thermostat in the grow closet and will check it later.

I checked the temps and it was at 28C so I turned the heater down. Trying to get it between 25C and 26C.

One seed has popped and a second has a big crack revealing some of the inner guts. I will probably plant them later today.

I did one of these grows under a stack of CFLs and best thing I did was get a 400 hps. How long are you planning on vegging?

I need to veg at least until I can setup an area in the basement for flowering, likely 6-8 weeks. I need to buy lights (better than CFL's) and fans plus setup ventilation to the outside. I really want to take one and start flowering early, just not setup for it yet.

Need help with humidity please.

When I put the stat in the closet and checked a little later the Rh was at 20%. It seems to bounce from 20-21% mostly, so I put a few trays of water on front of the fan. This morning I checked it again and it is down to 17%. WFT.
I guess I need to buy a humidifier, but with so little room in the closet now I may only be able to put one just outside the closet door. In the meantime if anyone has any suggestions to improve things for Rh I am all ears.

Week 7 pics - some big changes for one week. Still using T12 fluorescent but I am going to buy an LED (4 FT) since those lights seem to work well.

OK, I left the red pot out to do a side by side now that it growing under an LED bulb. What a magnificent difference it has shown using LED.

Week 6 & Week 7

P.S. Humidity was down to 16% this morning. It will go back up to 21% if I turn off the heater.

very nice looking youngsters you have there. I've looked at the led bulbs, something about them just doesn't hit with me just yet. Guess simply it doesn't give off the heat that cfls do. If you wanna lift humidity, try this, every day, spray the leaves and rthe soil with jus aired water or purified water, as the water evaporates it will create humidity on its own. That's what i do. You can ck my journals if you wish.
