I've said this here before. I took used perlite from a grow, put it in a large container and just hosed the shit out of it. Most of the roots floated to the top except the chunks that were really entwined with root matter. Those I just threw away Then I let it dry and put the perlite back in a 3 gallon hempy bucket and stuck some basil in there. It's now the most massive basil plant I've ever seen. Very fragrant and vigorous. It has a sibling I stuck in dirt right next to it. That plant is pathetic in comparison. I'm pretty sure I won't grow basil any other way from now on. I've never reused perlite for MJ though. But there's really no reason why you couldn't.

I don't think you really want to boil your perlite in H2O2. How much perlite are you talking about? 15 gallons or so if you are me. You'll need a great big pot and a lot of hydrogen peroxide. Also, I'm thinking hydrogen peroxide would break down pretty rapidly if you boil it. It might just be cheaper to buy new. My $.02

I have about 10 gal of perlite, I thought boiling it seemed a bit extreme. If that's all I need to do then it looks like I'm about good to go. I'll be transplanting within the next few days, prob over the weekend, I'll post some pics.

I cant beleive I read the whole damn thing! :eyesmoke: I was convinced the first 2 or 3 pages, but I just couldnt stop reading. Maybe I was waiting for the hammer to fall and prove this was all B.S. :hump: IT NEVER FELL!!! And I must say, that this is most likely the most civilized thread that I have ever found. No fights, hard fellings or any crap you usually find in a thread after about 10 pages. A lot of the credit goes to AZ and LJ for being patient and informative. The only negative that I can even barely come up with is all the folks that have been trying to make this super simple system more complicated than it has to be. I have also seen people that seem to look apon watering and visiting their babies as a chore, not a pleasure. I have found myself waiting by the flowering room door waiting for the lights to come on so I can go talk to my girls. I am waiting on some seeds to arrive now that will be grown in hempy buckets. More on them later. Sorry for the long post, but after reading 87 pages, I was ready to type.:peace:

I have a quick Q

I have a test plant in a hempy. (1/2 perlite/vermiculite)
Now I water it until water starts to come out the hole.

My Q is what about the water below the hole? Watering in this style, it never really gets replaced.

I asked the same question, and the answer I got was the older water is displaced or atleast oxygenated as you rewater.:peace:

It doesn't hurt to flush that reservoir out so that you displace at least as much liquid as is contained in there every couple weeks or so. If you are feeding every other watering, the nutes will be replaced in no time. You can never go wrong with periodic flushing.:peace:

Those are terrific plants! When do you plan to flower them? and will you keep them in the milk jugs or go larger?

the water below the hole is what is feeding your plant with my buckets if I let them go for 3 days they are bone dry I am using 100% perlite so it doesnt retain as much

yes the water below the hole question....you will notice that if waiting mabee a day o2 between waterings once the plants is established..you'll notice that the bottem is almost dry....so what ya doing when re watering is adding freash o2water to the mix of almost no stale water in there..i feel this is one of the main catching points for people...they belive that the lower 2 inches will always have old stale water...but you'll notice this not to be the case...peace az

hey Mole, you might want to wrap your containers with dark tape or something cause the nutes will react to the light and create alge.....

Hey darkstar thanks for the heads up about the algae growth. I've heard that will happen, I'm just waiting to see it for myself because I'm a learn by experience type. But I've got a roll of duct tape ready when it does!

Your plants look great btw. Those AK47 clones are gonna be fun smoke.

I know I've mentioned my hempy basil plant before, but here's a pic and a comparison to a plant I stuck in the ground at the same time. The hempy plant would be bigger but I've been cutting it and eating it. You can still see how happy it is compared to its earthbound brother.

I'm just finishing up a dirtbag grow; you can see it in my sig. I'm turning around and starting a hempy grow immediately after. Can't wait!:blsmoke:

Hey all this stuff looks awesome...I'm a first timer here and im using the hempy bucket cus its just so cool. I have a question that i hope wasnt answered already, i read this whole thread all the way through a while ago and i just cant remember. But i just moved my little sprouts from the wet towel to some party cups like 5 minutes ago and It feels like they might not be getting enough water from just sitting in perlite. any advice?

sorry if this question's redundant i just dont feel like reading through 88 pages again to find the answer...lazy pothead, who knew?

This is from the FIRST POST OF THE THREAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

seedlings an clones in small container's need to be watered everyday untill root establishment...after this every other day or so an once you get into bigger containers it may be every 2 days depending on your size pots...the lifting method works well here...in my system i go like this for a feeding schudal...water heavey feed water water heavy feed water ...this keeps salts from building up an cusing problems....

the one in the blue bucket, is that just one plant? How far along is? I just started some basil about 1-2 weeks ago.

Actually, it's 1/2 a plant. I bought a small nursery plant and ripped it in half. One part in hempy, the other in the ground. I think I planted them 5 weeks ago? It's been hot here and the res goes dry every day. I water until it just barely leaks a few drops and feed (with Fox farm Grow big and big bloom, lol) once a week. I just keep topping it (and using the tops) and more branches keep growing. The leaves are huge and sweet. I wouldn't grow basil any other way now!
