Ya I know mixed lighting is good. I've always been mixing spectrums. I'm more concerned about different ways of supplying UVB.

People on these threads are using CFL's in some form or another, Ganjman. We all already know people like to use HPS for flowering, thanks.

Um, i think you guys missed the point, the point is to supply both blue and red light during flowering not just red.....using an hps alone is not the mixed lighting being talked about here
what this thread is about is using a combo of MH and HPS tubes for flowering.....
and not to pick a fight or anything but racing hurts the environment a lot less then say 1000 people running a 1000 watt hps for 12 hours a day and using X amount of chemicals to grow them with

+1 to this, as i have a 26w repti glo 10.0 uvb bulb that is on all 12 hours with the rest of my 6500ks and 2700ksAwesome Thread. Pretty much all information I already knew, but I was particulary interested in what you were saying about UVB bulbs. Maybe you can talk about them more. I was under the impression that the more UV light the better. I have a plant under 1 x repti-glo 2.0, 26 watts, 1 x 20 watt 3000K bulb and it's getting light from a 130 watt 2700K light. So I thought this plant was getting optimal lighting. It's flowering(4 weeks, Indica) and looks very healthy but I expected more bud growth by now. Do you think I'm just growing smaller high quality nugs? Or am I partly damaging my plant with the UVA from my Repti-glo 2.0.
My reptiglo is on 12 hours, and is placed about 3 inches away from the plant. Maybe you can talk about the difference between repti-glo 1.0 and 2.0. And just what is the best way to use repti bulbs, if at all? Or if you'd just be better using 6700k 26 watt cfls. <so they have UVB too?

im not sure if i should buy the 4ft T5 CFL with bloom sectrum bulbs 3000k bloom bulbs each. is that good enough for a 32width 4foot long (grow box) ?? and would the plant yield pretty descent for using CFL , growing Afghan and W-widow

It sounds like that's about right, be ez. You could also try using a repti-glo 1.0 for even more UBV than the 6700k bulbs. But not everybody uses reptile bulbs.
Is there any advantage to using the mid tones, like 3000k to 5000k.?
Or once you're using a mix of 2700k and 6700k you have the most complete range?

I believe I may retract my statement against reptile lighting. Not completely, but a part of it. I found that some bulbs are perfectly fine and contain minimal UVA lighting. But there still are reptile lights emitting what i said in my initial statement. If I were to buy one, I would make sure that it is a "UVB Bulb". I would also only keep it active in increments of its light cycle hours. Maybe only when said person would be around to manually turn it on and off as large quantities of UVA and UVB can contribute to damage of plant DNA. Maybe only use it every other day or 6/12 hours per day if you have a bulb that emits very large amounts of UVB/UVA. If its a weaker UVB bulb, I'm sure it would be okay to leave it on for the entire light cycle.

I also prefer mixed lighting. I change the ratio of them according to the period.
During veg I have 4 of 85watts CFL daylights (5700k) and 2 of 85watts warm white (2700k)
When I go into flower it will be reversed as in there will be 4 warm whites and 2 daylights.
I also supplement them with 4 growth specific 120cm fluoros which are hanged vertical, so that the leaves underneath gets light as well.
