The LED Experience

So It's time for me to inform how to grow on the cheap well, as cheap as i could get into growing with LED and problems and the results... which is what people want.

Well I will post these picture first and edit them one at a time. as this might take sometime to inform everyone....

This here is the osram bulb led that I used, it was a 9W warm color 806 lumens, I also used 9w 800 lumen cool white color bulbs. At a ratio of 2/3 warm and 1/3 cool white. This worked great for veg, as the plants grew nice and fat and the additional red in the warm keeps them compact as much as the genetics of that seed would allow. It also gave them nice fat stems. i was really delighted about that as I really didn't have to worry about the plants falling over or anything like that. Later on I switched to cobs to finish the job. I was in a rush to order them so I'll go more into detail later on. Just a note, I had no Idea what a COB was until later on. Anyhow those bulbs are what I could get access to, it wasn't too cheap but it was not expensive and I'm sure they will last a long time and eventually replace the bulbs in my home

IMG_5133 - Copy.JPG

Here you can see how I put the Leds on the standard closet shelving. I used basic socket, CHEAP, and zip ties, CHEAP, ahd a standard 16 AWG power cord to link all the sockets up. IN the end it was a total of 14 bulbs 4 where cool white the rest warm. I'm sure this helped in the early stages to get the plants big.

IMG_5274 - Copy.JPG
That is how the setup ended out working, I guess really simple was the Idea to go with, I think anybody can use this setup in a tight sport and not really have to invest much money or time. it can easily be done with 1 trip to your local hardware store.
IMG_5412 - Copy.JPG
Here is a picture of the 2 sets of lamps. they are the same brand osram, with the little plastic covers off. This helps to focus the light downwards, honestly this is good idea, as those caps only keep the heat inside the leds anyhow in this purpose and focus the beams downwards not difuse them all over the place. They look pretty cool IMHO. :weed:

IMG_5459 - Copy.JPG
Here I would like to point out, that you can add some cheap computer fans and this helps cool the leds down. it's not necessary, but it does help reduce the temperature possibly also producing more light.

IMG_5482 - Copy.JPG
Just a picture so you get an idea how it was all wired up. I like the idea of using the rack also it allows for moving around the leds to focus them, slide them along the rails. and you can see the copious amount of zip ties. really simple

IMG_5985 - Copy.JPG
Progress and great growth. was happy about the situation at the moment. really no fuss setup. Space blanket mylar is your friend. as you can see the plants grow nicely under this light setup. I need to concentrate on use this setup or at least the use of 2/3 warm and 1/3 white. I think it really makes them happy. :weed:
IMG_5368 - Copy.JPG
That is how the spectrum looks like diffused through a crack. I thought that was pretty atristic and interesting, I can see why the plants like it. :eyesmoke:

Well, I hope this information helps those that interested in a basic setup, I will continue later on with an update, I have more pictures to show about this cycle.

Happy budding for now!

Eventually the COB delivery came..
IMG_6324 - Copy.JPG
This was me testing the cobs tunning to the right voltage and making sure the would not get hot. they were water cooled with cheap heatsinks that are available on amazon and running off a small aquarium pump that pulled 1.8W...
IMG_6336 - Copy.JPG
these are the drivers that i used for each cob, since the input was 12v, this have to be boosted to 36v, more on that later (eventually figuring out they can run at 29.5V). there is a power loss of about 15% on conversion. I did not want to purchase LED drivers because this was all a test and on the cheap. Most of the components were already in my hands. You need to keep the wires from the PC power supply short or lower gage, so they don't melt. and on the output just keep in mind the distance. Since they run at a "high" the gage does not have to be the same as input size. a wire gage calculator will help. I used 16 AWG for about 10 ft, it did the job just fine.
IMG_6338 - Copy.JPG
Here you can see the plants are bathing in the new light setup.
IMG_6365 - Copy.JPG
And lastly you can see the zip ties and the led cobs mounted on the shelving. this allowed for 2Dimensional adjustments of the Cobs. This was helpful after rearranging the plants every now and then.

Happy Budding!

Moving right along with my tall lanky plants, thanks for the correction. :weed:

Here is how i held the COBs, simple cheap solution, office supplies, zipties , rack shelf, and clips and thermal paste.. yup very cheap...

IMG_6446 - Copy.JPG
just another angle, so ya'll can get the idea. Im sure this not professional or nothing like what other people do, but that's not the point.
The point is grow YOUR OWN smoke. don't but it from some person, you never know what the heck went into it. Any personal weed is better than what get in a shop or on the street.
IMG_6618 - Copy.JPG
What you see here is.. a computer power supply with a jumper that how you make it work. and of course the drivers, this was convenient combo, because i used a clip to prop up the heatsinks on the drives over the cooling fan for the Power supply, this supply is more than adequate and silent. 750watts great wiring and heavy duty with a good power conversion factor. efficient and effective and cheap, i would say compared to some of the meanwell stuff...

Just another shot, leaves changing, china cobs, water cooled, and power supply, timer and Styrofoam cup spacers... can't get any cheaper than this. i'm feeling pretty proud of my thrifty self. NOT really trying to go all out and produce retarded amounts of weed, or spend ridiculous amounts of money. this is for fun and personal use. IMG_7065 - Copy.JPG
And here we go, cheap china cobs, make the leaves change colors, just like fall, ME LIKE.
IMG_7076 - Copy.JPG
Wow, pretty colors, how nice, I love nature ! IMG_7512 - Copy.JPG
Hmm this looks interesting almost no leaves and they continue to bud. Nothing crazy big, but again, i'm not using more than 180watt here. Soo all good!
and again this all from bag weed, like BAG weed.. LOL... hope you get that..

It's late again, so time to toke ! HOpe ya'll like this. Maybe not, buT ALL good. just sharing what I did, i had fun and that was part of the idea DUH! not trying to prove anything but a NOOB can do this with little invested. It's not complicated at all by anymeans. just some of us are restricted to growing indoors and on budgets!!!

and happy budding! :leaf:;-)

Very ingenious! You are like a Marijuana MacGyver! (80s TV show).

Under the category of unsolicited friendly advice: bigger pots>more roots>more fruits...and if the girls were closer to those Chicobs, you could tighten up the internodes a bit I think...just saying.

And make no mistake, I am very impressed with your grow. Thanks for sharing.

LOL.
i'm thinking using smaller pots and just putting more variety pack of bad seed LOL...

anyhow i appreciate all comments, trolls whatever, any attention is cool with me, im happy growing weed regardless, that's my life.

as always Happy Buddy to all!

Veros work well. I got 180g from 150w last run.

You need to feed them plants. The leaves are changing colour cos they are stripping the nitrogen out of the leaves as they aren't getting enough nutrients from the medium.

I'll see how it goes, they are showing nice frost already, and I'm sure this time around it's not the nutrients, it's just how they grow, already showing nice red stalks. I'll post my experience with the vero 29 once it's done, as far as I can see, if they cost that much ~$40 a piece on amazon, i wont ever even recommend them to anybody, just to expensive... and cree, well I cant say i would recommend either, I purchased some bulbs for the home and they crapped out after 1 month, all 8 of them.

For the price of 1 vero 29, you can purchase 4 china cobs and spend the rest on power for the next 3 cycles minimum while at the same time putting out more light. I don't get it. But heck it was worth a shot. I guess I'll be the guinea pig for the next set of china cobs on the way, straight outta Taiwan...LOL..

These plants turn colors regardless of the nutrients. ...That's why it's called HIGH RED, never going to stay green at the end of the cycle, the Jamaican did stay greenish/yellow always, same soil as the rest.. go figure. The nugs could have been bigger, but so could have the pots... I was not going for a world record. just trying to put the LEDs to the test. next time as i'm doing with the vero29, i will scrog them under china cobs, so ya'll with a have a comparison and do the numbers for yourselves. maybe i'm wrong maybe i'm right, but heck i don't care about being right or wrong. It's about finding out what just plain works and what doesn't for me.

I hope you enjoy the pictures and Ideas at least, and yes it was definitely better smoke than buy overpriced weed from a dealer.

Needs a GOOD trimmin' if I say so myself.
Please trash those China cobs. That's why the buds weren't huge, not your small pots, man. If you'd just take the time to get a Dimmable driver and turn the power way down on those cobs, you'd see what I mean. The lines of strings light up completely unevenly, and some won't even get bright until full power. Tons of videos on YouTube Bout it. Check it out. They're cheap for A REASON.

Lol can't believe your trash talking veros. They are proven to be better than the china cobs.

Veros from alibaba only cost me $27 a piece 6 months ago so they should be cheaper now as the new ones have just launched

E27 LED spots work well... in really small spaces and with really short plants (LST / SCRoG). This thread might've not been the best example of what LEDs can do though.

Here's a plant flowered with one E27 PAR38 LED Spot from eBay, vegged with two.

That's not bad for a tiny ass mogul based blurple. I see those at the top of the list on Amazon and eBay every time I search "LED Grow Light "
