My mom who just turned 96 a couple weeks ago is more in touch with the world and able to carry on an intelligent conversation than any of the people I know that are half her age. I'm almost 70 and she's about the only person I know I can have a decent discussion about current affairs with.

If it wasn't for all the great discussions that go on here and with her I'd soon be watching reality TV and be back to boozing for entertainment.

:peace:
not reality TV —!

Trump blasts ‘slime balls’ who sued to keep him off Colorado ballot
Former President Trump isn’t too pleased with a lawsuit filed earlier this week to try and keep him off the ballot in 2024 in Colorado.
The lawsuit was filed by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) Wednesday. It tries to use the 14th Amendment to say the former president is disqualified for actions allegedly taken during the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

“The group suing me in Colorado to ridiculously try and Unconstitutionally keep me off the ballot (I am leading against DeSanctimonious by almost 50 points, and beating Crooked Joe, BIG!), is TRUMP DERANGED ‘CREW,’ composed of many slime balls & groups like Norm Eisen through Brookings or Just Security, Andrew Weissmann, Joyce Vance, et al.” Trump said on his Truth Social platform.

Trump also noted in another post that CREW had previously brought a lawsuit against him a few years ago accusing him of violating the emoluments clause. He also accused the group of working with Special Counsel Jack Smith, who has indicted Trump in two cases, one related to efforts to overturn the 2020 election, the other related to document handling.

“Crew also sued me on emoluments at my recently sold, and very beautiful, D.C. hotel, and LOST BIG,” Trump said in the other post. “These are bad Radical Left people and groups that use the Injustice Department as though it were their own.

“They will have major liability for what they are doing to America!” Trump continued. “It is, working with Deranged Jack Smith & others, ELECTION INTERFERENCE at a level never seen before. MAGA!”

That cheeseburger is feeling like a big lump of coal in the stomach.

Trump says DeSantis ‘sided with the communists in China’ over US farmers
At a rally in South Dakota Friday, former President Trump said Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis had “sided with the communists in China” over U.S. farmers.
“He strongly opposed my protection for our farmers,” Trump said of DeSantis. “I protected our farmers, very simply, and by the way those farmers got big checks.”

When DeSantis was running for Florida Governor in 2018, he stated he didn’t like farm subsidies that would try and offset retaliatory tariffs from the trade war between the U.S. and China at the time.

“I’m not a fan of farm subsidies, and you know, to throw billions of dollars in farm subsidies, I want to get away from doing that,” DeSantis said on Fox Business at the time.

DeSantis signed bills earlier this year attempting to prevent Chinese citizens from buying land in Florida. In a statement at the time, he called the Chinese Communist Party “the United States’ greatest geopolitical threat.”

“I’m proud to sign this legislation to stop the purchase of our farmland and land near our military bases and critical infrastructure by Chinese agents, to stop sensitive digital data from being stored in China, and to stop CCP influence in our education system from grade school to grad school,” DeSantis said. “We are following through on our commitment to crack down on Communist China.”

They have a good case in a good state to do it, like the republicans went judge shopping on abortion in Texas. They just needed standing, and a venue to present their case and they should have both. Trump is worried and should be, because this might be the one that blows him out of the water with a disqualification before the primaries, game over, STFU and go to prison forever.

They can copy the letters from their lapel pin, which liberals will be producing if Trump is disqualified and some still want to write him in and spoil their ballots. The pin will say, " WRITE TRUMP IN"! The republicans would be panicked because they know how fucking stupid their base is!

The Colorado Secretary of State has been doing the TV rounds on the topic along with lawyers for CREW and the plaintiffs. If they succeed, they will bring down the local phone system from the volume of death threats! Fuck the fascists they are up against the US constitution and when push comes to shove there are more patriots than losers.

What is American is what is constitutional and ignoring the constitution is unamerican and unpatriotic.

A Washington-based advocacy group filed a lawsuit to block former President Donald Trump from the 2024 Republican primary ballot in Colorado, citing the 14th Amendment’s ban on insurrectionists holding public office. CNN’s Michael Smerconish discusses this with Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold.

I think its a mistake to kick trump out of primaries and off the ballot. He needs to be disposed of by losing. That ideology can only be killed at the ballot box (or war). It needs to be shown as a minority belief that isn't popular. However...that minority isn't small, I'm still very shocked and concerned with how close things are.

Biden might have trouble against any of the other candidates. Never trumpers would gladly go back for anyone other than trump. That could be offset by the trump faithful staying home...but idk, cats out of the bag and they are easy to manipulate and i dont think they are leaving the party. If you use the 14th trump can't be a 3rd party spoiler either. Any of the other candidates would gladly bend the knee for trump if he could deliver the votes. So they end up winning both the moderates that left and the crazies that filled the void.

You need to beat the republicans, not just trump. He is the softest target because he is so personally toxic. While that magnetism for morons thing he has going is baffling, he repels everyone else and can't gain much more support than he already has.

Yeah, there is a bit of nuance but I'm sticking to my main point.

Vivek wouldn't get through the republican primary. He can say the words but is still a brown guy in their eyes.

Desantis would also lose. I thought he was going to be much much more competitive, but he just keeps trying to tack right and it's a failure.

As an outside observer, I think the SCOTUS will disqualify Trump before the primary, the best time would be before the general election leaving the GOP high and dry. The 14th has been used on hundreds of people with no trial including one recently in NM, you cannot put Trump above the US constitution or rule of law, the 13th, 14th and 15th are as valid today as when they were written, to ignore them would make blacks disenfranchised slaves and disenfranchise women. America is a constitutional republic containing people from all over the world, the constitution and rule of law are the only tangible things binding the nation. A threat to either is a threat to the nation and its founding ethos because the 14th is as valid as the 1st or 2nd amendment.

CREW: Trump’s attorneys concede CO suit will stay in state court

15,215 views Sep 9, 2023 #Trump #CREW #MSNBC
A group of 6 voters backed by the nonprofit organization CREW has filed suit to bar Donald Trump from the ballot in Colorado. According to the president and CEO of the organization, Noah Bookbinder, a law in Colorado confirms the legal standing of these voters and the case will move forward in state court against Trump’s wishes. He joins Ali Velshi to explain why the concerns of these voters is a “a different thing from somebody just going into federal court and just saying ’I believe this person to be disqualified under the Constitution, so I want them removed.’"

I agree with you to a point. I would prefer that Trump be beaten at the polls. I doubt his staunch MAGA would accept the result if he lost. Their ideology will only die with their last breath. For the rest of the country, the majority who rejected Trumpism in 2018, 2020 and again in 2022, their participation to help our democratic system overcome the Trumpist infection again through the ballot box once again in 2024 would demonstrate that our democracy is strong and refute those inside and outside of our country who claim it is failing. Their movement can't win as long as our democracy remains strong. So, yes, I support letting Trump run again so he can be publicly beaten once more.

But I also support our Constitution which clearly says people who take office after an oath to defend the Constitution and go on to attempt to overthrow it are banned from office. If the courts decide according to our Constitution that Trump can't even run for office then I support that.

Depending on what the courts decide we could have it both ways. Trump could be allowed to run but prevented from taking office if he won. But he won't win, so we can each have our cake and eat it too.

More legal commentary on the 14th, it is in the public square and soon the courts.

bounced off the Republican primary ballot because he “engaged” in “insurrection or rebellion” and is constitutionally barred from holding any federal office again? And will it succeed where a similar Florida case filed? Michael Popok of Legal AF explains why the 1-2 punch of Colorado and a similar Arizona case may just do that trick.”
