I think your cooler as reservoir will be too small. Too small for good roots and too small to control pH fluctuation. If I were growing in an area that small I would want to use all the footprint I could to get maximum reservoir quantity. Here's my thought; water is 231 cubic inches a gallon.Your floorspace is 336 square inches, so one inch of water in a space 336 square inches would be 1.45 gallons. For every inch of height you make that reservoir taller you gain 1.45 gallons, so if you could find a container, 4" x 15" x 20" you'd have a reservoir of 5.19 gallons and still have 21 inches for light and a scrog.
thanks for the advice, i am obviously new to dwc, but in my mind it made more sense to have a deeper res for the roots to hang and be able to gather oxygen. if i had a res like you are using as an example 4"x15"x20" then wouldnt the roots be completely saturated in the nute solution and not be getting as much oxygen? i welcome the advice so please keep it coming!

Neumann has a solid point !
Even something like my 2.1gal Igloo would be better.

Once your plant matures and enters bloom, they'll drink that little cooler of water/nutes DAILY !!

...
i wouldnt be opposed to using that same cooler you have but im still unsure if the roots would be ok i there since its shorter than my little cooler. what are the measurements on that Flo?

L x W x H = 13" x 9.5" x 9" and that's the outside dimentions.

Lol turns out your cooler is bigger than mine! Do you think it would be ok to grow in yours? Im obviously thinking that mine is too small now, unless...do you think i would benefit from a rdwc in my little cooler?

I really wouldn't go smaller than my 2.1 gal I showed you, and that's for my clones.
I've the square 5gal Igloos too, and they're not much bigger.
If you can go bigger, like 5gal or larger, I highly suggest you just get it over with bcuz you'll find yourself wanting to upgrade or thinking you should have.
Also keep in mind, the smaller the rez/cooler the more you'll be fighting big PH swings.

ya i hear ya..just keep in mind though that i have to be stealth...thats why i was thinking rdwc might be a better choice at this point.

Hey Flo I decided to check out your cooler thread after you gave me some advice last week, great idea with the coolers! We have had a temp problem since we've moved and started using a grow tent. Gets super hot in there! After reading this I think we are going to start using coolers next grow, would totally do it now but I'm 9 months pregnant and don't want to start any other projects until after baby comes. I just filled hubby in about all the positives using coolers, and he's totally down =) I can't wait to smoke down and eat some of the edibles I've been making, it's been a long 9 months!! =) I'll be back and show everybody my set up hopefully the beginning of May, see you soon! Happy growing! =)

ExHale - Homegrown CO2 cultivates CO2 24 hours a day with no need to refill bottles or use expensive CO2 production units. The power of ExHale lies in the mycelial mass inside the vented cultivator. This mycelial mass cultivates 20,000ppm CO2 and the one-way breather patch releases CO2 continually for up to 6 months.

ExHale comes complete and is cultivating CO2 even before you get out of the checkout line. No need to turn it on or turn it off, simply place ExHale in your grow space and leave it alone to do its job.

A continuous shower of CO2 directly onto your plants is the most efficient way to deliver CO2. Placing the ExHale Cultivator slightly above the level of your plants will insure they receive the CO2 they need 24 hours a day for up to 6 months.

The ExHale Cultivator is designed for small to medium grow spaces, or more specifically 1 ExHale Cultivator will provide 4-6 plants with the CO2 they need. Works great in 4x4 grow tents or smaller.

i was going to try this, they sell just the ingredients in a kit for $12 without the bucket & tubing, but i don't realy have the room for a 5 gal bucket plust i didn't realy fancy the smell & all the hassle, well it seems like a hassle, & before anyone says get a tank, for some reason i'm weary of having co2 tank right behind where i sleep, plus by the time i buy all the fittings, controls & timers, let alone the tank up front costs, i'm just thinking kind of small areas, like most of us using small tents etc., these crazy ideas of mine sometimes work....lol, plus its pretty cheep, we like cheep :-P

The micro organisms feed on ordinary inexpensive sugar from your local grocery store to produce CO2 as a waste by-product. As long as you keep feeding the organisms according to the included instructions, they continually produce the valuable CO2 plants need to thrive. This unit can produce CO2 indefinitely for just the price of sugar.
CO2 (carbon dioxide) is what plants need from the air for use during photosynthesis. The carbon dioxide is combined with water and light inside the plant and oxygen is released. The amount of CO2 available to a plant determines how fast the plant grows, how healthy the buds become, and ultimately how big the final fruit is.
Plants grown indoors or in enclosed containers need additional CO2. You will see the benefits in faster growing plants, large buds and flowers, and heavier fruit. A CO2 generator is a must for any serious indoor gardener.
