The Shot Glass Grow Off '09!

you got me,...im in,,,im gonna go with papaya seeds that i have,,,i just hope i can get my comp to load my pics from my camera,or i'll be doin this for nothing,maybe i'll try and fix my camera situation first.....fuck....

I am very interested in seeing the results of this, I would join the challenge but I don't have any more seeds....blehh

Sounds fun, I'll join in! I'll start germing bag seed tomorrow, tossing up between drilling a hole, going with 100% perlite with a 4gph dripper sourced from my DWC res on a timer, or just a perlite/soil mix. 12/12 from seed under the cfls I'm flowering with. Exciting!

Actually I'm going to try to find a plastic shot glass for easier hole making and reduced chance of cracking/breaking

Been waiting for one of these threads to pop up sence I seen one else where. Been wanting to try this myself, I'm in. I really think we need the rules layed out. What size shot glass, there's a couple of sizes. We all need to each have the same size. Can we wrap something around the shot glass to keep the roots in the dark, as long as it doesn't help out with making the shot glass bigger for more root groth. Can we have a wick system to keep water going to our plant. Seeds or clones. I seen some say hydro(not sure how anyone would do that in such limited space). Are we doing hydro or dirt here. We deffantly need the rules layed out. There's too many what about this or what about doing that. The starting date you said was the 28th. Are we starting to germinate our seeds that day or take clones that day. Are we doing 12/12 right of the bat. Probably sence the size of the shot glass.

There's some big shot glasses out there. I have 4oz. shot glasses. Here's what I think should be some of the rules for this. just throwing this out there, so don't jump on me for this.

It has to be a shot glass no bigger then 1.5oz. It must be a clear shot glass for weekly inspection.
Tin foil or other means are ok to wrap around the shot glass to keep the light from the roots. But must be removed for inspection.
You must take pictures each week of you progress. 2 pictures from 2 or more angles so others can see no one is cheating. Roots must be visible in the pictures.
You have to grow in soil. No hydro.
Start off on 12/12 light cycle.
Seeds can be used, but males result in disqualification, clones of known gender(female) are prefered but the size has to be small to start with. (under 4inches)

I'm shocked that people are willing to use feminized seeds and/or quality genetics (that you paid for) in this "grow-off."

I've got a jar of bagseeds I've collected, so I'll probably germ 3 or 4 to increase my chances of getting a female.

Additionally, I'll probably snip a clone or two and give them a whirl. Probably have to start it under 24/0 until it roots though before switching to 12/12. Should make for a nice comparison.

So yeah, I'm in. We start Friday, August 28?

I have clones ready to go. They just rooted. There about 2 weeks old from when they were taken. I'm also going to do a seed. I wanna see whats the difference is going to be. I'll be germinating that today so it's ready to plant for the 28th. I feel a clone will do better sence it's already mature enough to begin flowering.

none of my 5 other seeds from my main grow germinated so im throwing 2 more seeds in now to try to get one for the shot glass grow

ok im in got mine german. will do about 3 hoping for one female going straight 12/12 soil. already got one in second week of flower now she got some friends.

Ok so what are the rules so we can get ready then? Have we decided on a shot glass size yet? Probably 1.5oz is mostly what people have laying around. I think thats the most common size anyways. I know I can go bigger if you wanna go bigger, but other might not be able to. Everyone should try to use the same size to be fair, so we need to decide on a size. Do you want us to post pictures of the progess and how often? Are we all doing 12/12 right away? Seriously, I'm not trying to be a pest or anything, just want to know(and I am sure others do as well) what we are expected so no one does something that other might feel isn't fair to the grow off.

i mean...it's like a 2 gram harvest right? Forgive me, this is really fascinating. how long til harvest for something like this lol

Official Shot Glass Grow Off Rules:

• Shot glass must be 1.5oz or smaller.
• Lighting schedule is up to grower. 12/12 or 18/6.
• Cloned or from seed.
• No holes drilled in your glass.

Well I'll probably fail, but I have two that just sprouted. I'll use one and climb onboard!
