clay, do you have any links or info on exactly what happens by adding molasses? seems to me if it is just because you are adding a thick natural syrup, why couldn't you use pure maple syrup, or honey, etc ?

I have, I know alot of people here are saying only use mollases, But I also have used honey and maple syrup....you can also use raw cane sugar, the mane thing is to make sure what you are using is completely natural sugar with no addatives, corn syrup works great just read the ingredients to make sure it is pure corn syrup and that there is no flavoring or salt added..just straight corn syrup...use it just like mollases your plants will love it.

here is a quote from Jorge Cervantes' new book

SUGAR:
"Molasses, honey and other sugars are said to increase soil microbials, enhance re-growth,and make plant's use of nitrogen more effective.Mollases will raise the energy levels of the plant and act as a mild natural fungicide."

page 289 under Sugar

One more thing maple syrup also acts as a mild fertilizer just like Mollasses, i use sping tree maple syrup and it has 6% iron and 4% calcium....calcium is good for bud density.

You just want to stay away from anything that is refined. The more refined a product is, the more worthless it becomes for the grower. Now, I am not sure about the maple syrup that was mentioned, however, I do know that honey is bad, so go figure. Honey has a pH of 3.9 to 4.5, honey has antibacterial properties, & honey will attract ants, while molasses won't.

New Page 1
Molasses deters pests
Molasses deters fungal diseases
Molasses provides B vitamins
Molasses provides Fe, S, Ca, and K
Molasses catalyzes a compost pile

Table sugar does none of that. Table sugar and blackstrap molasses are nowhere near the same thing nor do they provide the same nutrition. Table sugar will provide the microbes with carbohydrate but they need a lot more than that.

honey should not get such a bad rap, honey has anti-bacterial properties which may seem to be bad when trying to feed the bacteria, but the anti-bacterial properties are because honey naturaly releases small quantities of H2O2(hydrogen peroxide) hydrogen peroxide is great for keeping the bacteria "in check" it's great especially in organic gardens.you want to feed the bacteria in the soil whith carbs(honey has plenty) but you don't want the bacteria to get out of control this is where the hydrogen peroxide helps(honey releases it naturally), it's like bacteria population control.
That's just my thoughts...I love using molasses, but i like using a little honey too.

And maple syrup is great ,89% is sucrose, the remainder is primarily fructose and glucose,it also contains B vitamans , calcium , Iron and Manganese:joint:

Honey is bad dude, I wouldnt recommend it to anyone. The PH alone is a major problem, and as far as maple syrup, most store bought syrup is highly refined.

oh well to each his own..

One thing about the PH of honey though, even though it's so low, I only use a teaspoon to a gallon along with my malasses,The honey doesn't even mess with my PH...and as for Maple Syrup you must get a bottle that says 100% natural, like spring tree....:joint:

I'm still not sure about the honey, but it works for you! And the syrup as you stated being 100%, if your going to use it, that would be important.

I use to have a friend who made his own maple syrup, and once a year we'd all meet in his shed where he made the syrup and have a pancake breakfast, it was alot of fun. Real maple syrup is hard to come by. Never heard of spring tree, but I bet it's good.

you can use raw sugar like jaggery, it's sugar cane juice that has been boiled and solidified. it has a lot of nutrients in it like calcium, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, manganese, iron.

GraF dude, those are looking so sweet! You know the best part is...wait til you taste em! You are gonna be buying molasses by the truckload.
Peace

MaryJane, about a tablespoon should do it nicely.
brah, if you think molasses kicks up the sweetness & taste of your cannabis. Then I got a surprise for you!
Yo, I got some "rocket Fuel" from NASA if you're interested? Talk about blasting off! You put it on when your plants start to bloom. Then every other watering, make a top dressing of "dog shit" for your babies. I swear to you, in the end it will make you wanna forget all about your "Buttcrap" Molasses!:rolleyes:
