native soil in a pot doesnt drain properly

totally, I stick to less than 20% native inside. But again, special circumstances. my soil is thick in worms and I amend with crop seasonally. I dont reccomend someone just digging up some soil and dumping it in a pot.

can't you dig up soil tho, and then compost it or use it as a base for composting....ad verm/perlite/ecw all that jazz and let it sit for a while? is it necessary to start with peat or coco? I know that some soils can be extremely clay based and totally not desirable. But say you live in a flood plain with awesome top soils...could you just start with that?

Very informative. I love how all the cannabis super heros live in this thread! I like being a (super annoying) fly on the wall.

I am not planning on putting native soil in a pot btw, What I am trying to do is find an easy/cheap solution to growing a plant on a cut block (harvested forest) without having to bring so much weight up the logging road. (to keep it low profile...)

So I would dig a hole the size of a 40-50 gallons container, add a bunch of perlite and my amendments, then refill the hole the same way I would do indoor, hotter soil at the bottom and everything is supplemented with perlite. Could this work ? (assuming the soil is decent and dark ...)

Sorry to messup your thread nugbucket, it's kind of off-topic and kind of not!

ended up using my recycled super soil as my new base.....i just added EWC, gypsum, little azomite, 50# compost, few pounds of tomato tone 3-4-6...(really not much) and about 2 lbs of high N guano....and now she will get inoculated, and cook along side with my new batch of super soil for the next 9-10 weeks..........i mixed them both hot, cause i plan to run sativas with it.

I think we have gotten away from what the central theme of this thread ought to be. and thats growing super healthy plants that are pest/disease resistant. There are baseline cation exchange ratios of nujtrients that need to be met for optimal plant health. the ingredients that are put together to reach these percentages can vary. but the goal should be to reach these baselines.

gonna dig up the ratios from hemp diseases and pests shortly..

base saturation refers to "base" minerals (as in acids and bases) especially ca mg potassium. 70-80% calcium 12-15% magnesium and 3-5% potassium

soil microbes need one part of usable phosphorous for every part of N and one part N for every 20-30 parts carbon.

sulfur: one part to every ten of N and phosphorous. overall ratio C:N:P:S 250:10:10:1

EDIT: hard numbers for N are 150 kg per ha1 and 50 ppm for P

wheezer do u add back cal phos annually?

NO DOUBT, I noticed this year that I have NO problems so far..no mites, no PM or mold, no other bad bugs at all, no disease..maybe a little heat stress from 100 degrees for 10 days straight, but that's it. I have fed 0 liquid nutes, have not foliar fed or sprayed anything at all...NOTHING!!.. There's definitly something to it huh.

exactly what im talking about!! your soil must be right on. no feeding no pests no disease all from a properly balanced soil.

I go by cu yards or gallons. Any feedback would be very appreciated i am pulling my hair out with this stuff haha thanks

alright....i plan to recycle my used mix for my new base, it tests at 6.7 ph, 750 ppm..........i only plan to add ewc, and gypsum....then inoculate it, and let it cook for 2 months.....i do feel however that it needs a nitrogen source...i don't use blood...so was thinking of adding a little guano and alfalfa meal....what are your thoughts bros?....also, should i add some neem cake for insurance, cause it did sit outside for a spell?

I re-amended my roots soil from my last grow with alfalfa meal, kelp meal and some other stuff, hit it with some tea and let it sit 8 weeks. Anyway I THOUGHT I did a GREAT job mixing all the soil up by hand for about 30 min, but there is some variation in my flower room as far as fade/equal maturity. ( 2 are right on, 1 maybe 3-4 days behind the first 2, and 1 looks about 2 weeks behind) I'm pretty sure its the alfalfa i added still breaking down and releasing on that last plant

Rabbit poo is well rounded in NPK, and is considered a cold fertilizer, so it can be used right away. so you know everything would be good for sure after sitting 2 months. peace of mind.
Also rabbits mainly eat alfalfa pellets, so I guess rabbit poo is just predigested alfalfa plus some enzymes, right?
I see it on craigslist usually for like 5 bucks for a 5gal bucket, just thought I'd throw that out there

and props for all of you in the organic crowd for teaching people like me................all the awesome shit that I'm always learning. you are KICKASS!!! love these threads

came across this:https://attra.ncat.org/soils.html looks to be tons of info here and i barely scratched the surface. linked to most relevant info but this looks to be extremely promising. love learning!

they have links to soil labs and everything geeking out!! cant wait to have the soil from these containers lab tested at the end of the season.
