never heard of the chic, but seems like a bitch. and wtf is up with this - i found it on her website.... WTF?

She's the only woman that I've ever wanted to beat the hell out of. She's popular because she's an argumentative, low balling, conservative, fascist.

I hate it when people go to the drive thru with 3 or more people in the car and have no idea what they want to order. Because I always seem to be behind them.

First off NEVER waive your right to trial. I know they told you it is just a ticket, but it is $1200 you don't have. I understand your frustration, see if they have a payment plan some courts still do, and live with Moms and don't smoke until you have your own place. If you do smoke make sure you are out for the night. I have been telling people for years, represent yourself in court, you do not need a lawyer. Many get scared because they look at the law as a whole and think "I can't fight this", but really all you have to look at are the charges brought against you, and the fun part you get to argue before trial court with the D.A. as to what charges actually apply to your case. I have had 1 neightbor listen to my advice, he was 19 aswell, he won his case ALL BY HIMSELF. He was so relieved, and actually got a compliment from the judge saying "you might want to consider a career in defense law.". I made the same mistake as you, waived my right to trial, and paid $184.00 for simple possesion of under an ounce. I have since learned to REPRESENT YOURSELF, for you are in your best interest.

why defend yourself when you can just get a public pretender.

A public defender works for the very organization that is charging you with the crime. Who's interest does he/she have yours? The D.A. and Public Defender will make a deal, but it is not in your favor, it will favor the court. Maybe not in jail or prison time, but outrageous fines(like $1200 for paraphanelia?), and community time. If you represent yourself you get to make the deal, most D.A.s are easy to talk to intelligently, so do your research know your rights and defend yourself. My neighbor that did this talked to the D.A. and point for point got all his charges dismissed, and agreed to be charged with disturbing the peace to be served as 100 hours community service no fines. He was under age, alcohol was involved. The charges dismissed were drunk in public and possession of alcohol by a minor, which was not true, a case of it really is not what it looks like. You can take your chances with a private lawyer, but then you have the BAR association, which the judge who presides, the defense and prosecution all belong to and again their interest is that of the court. That is why.

If you don't mind LOSING, represent yourself. If you have more SERIOUS CHARGES, NEVER represent yourself. Ask any lawyer, they will tell you. Public defenders are usually fresh grads "doing their time". But you control them. You can direct their efforts. EXAMPLE, Ask them to research similar cases, collect the evidence against you for review. Make them help you prepare if you plan to testify on your own behalf. Research the employee files of ALL agents who wrote reports...ETC.

You need to do your research... there are so many cases where people have defended themselves and won. Jim harrell(sp?) won against the IRS, in the 1930's a man(name escapes me at the moment) defended himself, he robbed a bank, and won on the defense that because the money he stole actually had no value in and of itself, he really did not steal anything. Case dismissed. And of course my 19 year old neighbor, high school drop out. Yes represent yourself.

By the way what would you expect a lawyer to say.

Ok I have been just keeping my mouth shut but this is just ridiculous.....

Yes there have been cases where people have won defending themselves....The MAJORITY OF PEOPLE DEFENDING THEMSELVES FAIL HORRIBLY.....

Giving legal advice to your buddy who ended up winning his case ( a 50-50 chance I might add) does NOT qualify you to give legal adivce....especially on a forum about growing pot.....

I don't care if you think you know the law....unless you have a law degree and have practiced for years I, nor anyone else, wouldn't trust you as far as we could throw you.....

Heres some advice to you.....save your breathe...save the legal advice.....that is obviously giving people a false idea of how the court system doesn't take much to understand completely...

I am not giving legal advice... legal advice would be, telling him/her what types of forms to file when to file and such as it relates to the persons direct case. I merely stated my opinion, and gave specific reasons for my opinion. I am very opinionated as I am sure you are well aware now TTMK... and if you think the court system is too hard to understand. I have one phrase used expertly by that same court "ignorance of the law is no excuse". Go to jail, and $200 dollars please.
