get a long thin rope and tie a weight to it. throw it over the branch you want to cut. then tie the heavier rope with the saw to the thin rope you threw over the branch. pull it up and over and do the deed.
you could use a bow and arrow for the really tall ones.

i could reach that branch standing on a bucket.This is really the tool to have for that.
im not talking about creating my own open area, 3-4 branches max. just to thin the canopy a little. i might not even need to depending on how it looks when the leaves come in. if anyone is close enough to notice a few branches were cut, im sure they would notice the plants in the ground first and in that case the op. is fucked anyway.When I look for a potential grow spot, about 50% of the time I look up, not god as my witness I would ever rip anyone, but I would notice trees being trimmed from a mile away. I also know hunters always look up for possible tree stand spots. Also be careful sounds like an accident waiting to happen. Try growing within natures bounty, cut less grow more...
