A couple of threads suggested getting those insect strips from home depot, which I did and it's been 2 days and man, they're catching those criters pretty well.

You think you don't have any bugs because you're indoors and what have you but these mother f*%&#$S come out of nowhere. You usually see like 10% of what's really there but this thing is a must in my opinion for guys that see at least one of these bugs.

Trying to harass my ladies will ya? This is the result




this thing even caught a little moth (I think it's a moth)



Here is one of my girls so far. I think it's looking good. Some tip curling but I've reduced the heat and they've gotten better.

If you dont get the Larve you will be catching them for the next six months. Go get a potato or two from the store, peel it and cut into 2x4 inch pieces. put three or four in the soil, just lay them in there. Change them out about every five hours or so, they cant resist the potato and will lay their larve on there instead of the dirt. Takes about three days and between you getting them with the sticky and the potato larve you will be rid of them

really? the potatoe pieces won't hurt the soil or attract other sort of bugs will it??

I do it in every plant I grow and no wont hurt the soil they are only small little pieces, get a scope and check them out when you take them out it is the most disgusting thing you have seen. ugh the Larve is gross

Get the sticky traps yellow and it will attract even more bugs for some reason certain bugs are attracted to certain colors.

The potato thing works to some degree it definitely will attract the gnat larvae. I dont know if it effectively kills all of the larvae because some burrow down deep, but I'm sure if you repeat the process it should help out a lot.

Just about every hydro shop or nursery should have them. They sell yellow and blue yellow attracts gnats and blue for aphids. If you cant find them then use what you have anything is better than nothing.

I'm trying to keep the visits to the hydro store on the DL if you know what I mean. I'm sure I can find them online though.

looks like they work well. i dont have bugs but i keep a shit load of papers out anyway. i put them right in my pots on top of the soil. they get dirty quick but it takes a long time until they become useless. http://www.seabrightlabs.com/paneltrap.htm these are what i use. at my hydro shop i pay like $5 for 5 traps. a bit pricey but i like them best. they're even a bright yellow to help attract bugs. they also make blue ones which i also use for different kind of bugs that like more shade. i had fungus gnats in the past and these greatly helped reduce the population by killing the adults. otherwise to get rid of my pest problem i ran dr doom bombs every 2 weeks. rotated waterings with azamax, captain jacks(spinosid), and go gnats. all my new plants i also kept separate so the infection wouldnt spread. once all my old ones were harvested i clean the room with physan 20 then run a dr doom bomb. all my new plants are seeds i start myself or clones. i rotate with the products listed with waterings. i never take in plants from other people anymore, they've all failed me. i look in my soil in every plant everyday and no bugs. only time i ever had mites was from bringing outdoor plants inside or taking an infested plant from a friend. dr doom and others are your millitary. keep it well funded, strong, and on patrol often. be like the fucking gestapo with it and the bugs are the jews cause they're hurting your yields which is taking your $. bugs will fucking hate your place and not be able to nest. also keeping those traps on your soil, bugs will want to land on the brighter colors more often than soil so they land to their death and can't breed.

in hydro i used a sure way to kill them all but it may shock your plants. dunk your root system in soapy water. it will kill any insect. then rinse it off very well, i mean until there is not a single sud left. it wont kill your plant but will probably shock it. at the time i tried it my plant was stressed anyway from root rot from high water temps. actually still turned out real nice. killed all the gnats.

if you ever have mites real bad i find its just better off starting over from scratch. i cant believe how bad i've seen it get in some ppls grows. gnats suck but are probably the least damaging pest.

exactly what i use. they work so great. especially the yellow for gnats. i dont have bugs anymore but keep them out like fort knox so if they find there way inside they will probably be killed before they can breed. they really helped greatly in a previous battle with gnats. kinda expensive though. i pay $5 for a 5 pack at my hydro shop and i can just get 4 strips of fly tape for only a dollar at walmart. yellow traps are superior though cause the color and easier to handle.

i could be wrong on this, but i thought i read potato pieces are just for monitoring. i thought they just show you if you have an infestation, not kill them also. if so how does it kill them? is it like poisonous to them? again, im not 100% on what i read before.

You have to change them out, I put them there and switch about every five hours or so takes a few days to get them all but once you cut off the larve from hatching it is all just about letting the strips do the jobs on the adults. My worst infestation in the green house with all hydro set up took three days and were all gone.

so do you dig them in the soil or just on top?? and does it matter what kind of potatoes? lol
