My first outdoor grow was a disaster but still got some buds and that alone made me happy. Making mistakes is the absolute best way to learn anything.
 
I’ve had some spectacular failures. Thankfully not many but it happens. Bugs. Long power failures with no backup, power off for days in the dead of winter. And etc.

Thanks! When I decided to grow medicine I spent hour upon hour of time on this forum and more hours watching you tube videos and reading Jorge's indoor book, Rosenthal's handbook etcetera. I decided to do soil until I got some grows under my belt; then perhaps trying some more advanced grow methods with different mediums (God there are a ton of them aren't there?). While on my 3rd successful grow I decided not to fix something that wasn't broken. What's wrong with just good old soil? 80% FFHF 20% inert perlite. I use the Techna-Flora Recipe for Success system but not for the first at least 3 weeks after transplant. Simple as that.

Not trying to jack the op's thread...this is about his grow. I am only sharing some of my experience. :peace:
 
oof that sucks especially if there is absolutely nothing you can do about. I have a back up generator but even then I’m not sure my grow tent would be priority enough to run on it. It’s not a big one. Well here’s hoping no problems this go around!

Oof? OMG are you a Scandahoovian from Minnesota? Try Pro Mix HP. You’ll have to feed after a few weeks. Buy a simple 1 shot fertilizer. Liquid or powder. Grow cannabis.

No I’m a luxemburger from Maine. Hahah. I dunno it’s something we say here hahaha. Doesn’t translate in print I guess. I use the promix bx with success but I guess I could give the hp a try.
 
We called them honyocks in Montana. The generic term for mostly Scandinavians who were the first whites to farm eastern Montana. There’s a book or three about them. Damned tough people.
 
I've noticed in pretty much every single thread with seedling issues, you guys are in extremely small pots. Why is this?

Within five days, my plants roots are four times as deep as the pots you are using. Just put them straight into 2 or 3 gal pots if it's an auto. Plants need to grow a taproot over the first few days. If you don't give it enough medium to grow a decent root, how do you expect it to develop?

This is 18 days old under a 100w led, had only been watered twice at 1L per watering over two and a half weeks, with no nutes and some $3 potting mix with perlite. Dropped seed in dirt, have not touched since. I think people are getting too caught up in "perfect seedling environments", but I just don't agree (and most of the pics show the proof) that a small handful of medium is enough to start a plant, and know that transplanting an auto is nit the best idea.

Why start it in something that small just to transplant it mere days after birth, especially an auto? Sometimes keeping it simple is the best bet.

KISS. Keep it simple, stupid. My mantra here. Once you are easily growing plants without having to search Google “spots on cannabis leaves” it’s a good time to kick it up a notch. Avoid autos. They’re a grenade with the pin pulled. Sounds easy but it’s not always.

I thought about doing some autos, in fact I have 5 lemon haze auto seeds. But, I agree they can be pretty risky. Besides how much time do they really save...2 weeks three weeks?

About that maybe. I’ve run some outdoors for the last 3 seasons and every time had to finish them indoors. Of course we have a short growing season of 100-110 days but that’s longer than they claim it takes. I’m running 4 more freebies this summer. If they can’t finish I’m done with autos.

I had to finish 3 freebie autos inside last year too, And I’m way farther south than you!
I’ve got two more freebies I’m starting them 1.5-2 weeks before may long weekend and if the same happens I’ll just keep with my trend of only taking autos as freebies thrown in with other orders lol
