It also helps detour rippers. My friend and I both had rippers. They lost entire plants cut at the stocks. My rippers had to try to trim individual buds through the cage so I only lost tops off 3 plants and still filled a few jars from the bottom buds they couldn't get in time. Long story but the cages helped so much.
:eek::cool:

Well there we go to talk about an extra security measure!!!!
So maybe the best way to say it is there are many benefits for outdoor SCROG.

2 Months?
Well I guess I need to get a package off to you then fairly soon. It's been on the back burner, thinking you have lots of time, but I guess not. I'll be thinking about you next week and get that taken care of for you.

i plan on ordering seeds in the next couple of weeks. will germ 1/2 under lights as soon as they arrive for cloning and indoor the rest will be germed outside mid sept. clones will be outside mid october/early november

still havnt got a fence yet so probably wont be doing 100 gal smart pots this season might get a 50 or 2 for this season and use my 15s again from last season

1x1x1 m hole will give you 2lb minimum and you can lst or scrog/top to keep shorter ? I think I worked out the hole I dug last year gives me 100 gallon size more or less.
I started germination last season last week sept but tis year im starting in 1st week and hoping to have plants in small pots till they are 4-5 weeks old before transplant.

@treemansbuds I can really notice the difference in size and density from the same time last year,i can see what you mean with the cut in the scrog cage to reach to the middle...good problem to have I guess :)

Sorry to hijack your thread here tmb...but lesson was learnt last season done really well but this year 2 things stand out...2-4 weeks more growth in small pots before final transplant...and harvesting 2 weeks later to get that one hit smoke.
Wonder woman is great but i know i can make it greater :)

@treemansbuds got home from fishing and remembered these wire cage sheets i had put away for a rainy day years ago..they measure 6ft by 3.5 ft,you can see how big there openings are by my hand behind in the pic..i have 4 or 5 of these screens and could quite easily fit one over the plant if i do the same size as before.Thoughts kind sir ?

Those should work great. The holes on my panels are larger, but those should work just fine. I lay my wire panels on top of the wire cage I have around the plant, then extend out from that 1st panel if need be. I SCROG until Aug 1st (which would be Feb1st for you, 6 months adjusted) then nothing after that date. I put a 2nd layer 18" above the 1st layer for the buds to grow through. The 2nd layer keeps the buds up right so they receive maximum even sunlight.
I'll post pictures as I go through this season. The first picture below is from 7-21 last year. Look at the plants, nice table tops on that date. The 2nd picture is from Aug 11th, the 2nd layer of panels are up and ready for the buds to grow through. The 2nd pic is a large file, so you can click on it and zoom in close.

morning tmb...totally understood your process then cheers.feb 1st sounds right on as well as mine started the stretch between around jan 28th last year. You put the second layer up just before stretch then?Im wondering now how tall the entire plant would be with the second layer in place.with the way your scrogging would the plant be under 8ft?Might take a piece of this cage out tomorrow and see what kinda room I have for it..the areas only small so im gonna take some measurements tomorrow got cramped with only 2 plants last year and this year want to stretch it to 3.I think the plant was 6 1/2 ft foot before stretch last year but ended up a nice 8 ft which was a pain in the are doing lst everywhere to keep it out of neighbours view

You could start your SCROG @ 2'-3' off the ground and keep them nice and low. Each plant takes up a area of about 10' x 10' wide (3x3 meters for you Aussies). My smallest plant last year was the Marion Berry and she was 6lbs. I get great results with the SCROG, maximum poundage from just a few plants. Look how uniform the buds are using this technique in the picture below, another benefit.

I start scrogging early. To keep it as low as possible. Only 2 or 3ft tall and i start bending it.

how do you space your first and second layers apart?

A couple of different ways, 1st technique I use is....
I use the same wire that I wrap around the Smart Pot/plant (5' concrete mesh). I cut the wire so it's the same diameter as the wire I have around the plant, make into a large circle, but instead of the wire being 5' tall, I cut it to 18" tall, and leave every other cut wire long when cutting. You protrude the long/cut wire through the existing SCROG to hold it in place. This is the only picture that kind of shows it, the second screen being supported by the concrete mesh.
I also use tee posts and I tie off to the carport frame to support the 2nd layer as seen in the background.
