Before you mention the Keystone Pipeline bill that would have created 10s of thousands of American jobs, that bill too was blocked by our democrat controlled senate!

it's a great article but it is mute on the hydrocarbon industrial feedstocks, the place where the real money from oil is made. i doubt those will be sent off to export, given that we still import so dmned much of the stuff from around the world.
This article, like most, focuses on the popular hot-button issue of fuel prices and "energy" which are only secondary to the oil issue.
just once I'd like to see somebody cover what really happens to a barrel of oil and how it is used from the well to the refinery to the end users. Thats a story worth reading.
most of the mass in a barrel of oil winds up as asphalt and tar, a smaller but still significant portion of the mass becomes the raw material feedstocks that industry uses to make everything from pharmaceuticals to plastics and dyes, a substantially smaller portion becomes gasoline kerosine, and other light hydrocarbon fuels, and the final fraction is basically methane gas and trace elements, most of which is used to run the refinery, and fill propane demands, but a lot of it is just burned off as waste because the demand is too low, and storage space is filled.
out of all that,i have yet to find a breakdown of a barrel of oil and how it pays out in different products based on mass or dollar value, only by volume, and every report shows radically different figures based on whether the authors are pro or anti gasoline. considering that most of the mass is in the heavier more valuable fractions, the constant focus on gasoline is foolish. maybe one of you college boys (or girls) can show me the way to the information i seek.
I guess I could post links claiming just the opposite, but the truth is, we'll never know the true numbers.
Despite that, the fact remains that the senate killed a bill that could have provided thousands of American jobs.

The pipe line isn't as amazing as people have made you believe. Their will be jobs created, but only temporarily. Once the construction is complete how many people do you think it takes to watch oil flow through a pipe? 1 guy in a computer room monitoring the pipeline & and mabey 1 maintenance crew for each sate it runs through.

of course, as indicated the oil companies have been promoting their view strongly.
Scott walker(republican) fucked us here in wisconsin with the interstate high speed rail and his refusing to go with it and losing all the jobs(the company was even going to build their main factory here, supplying all the other states with the materials and such.) We didnt have a possible ecological nightmare or job numbers that were extremely sketchy hanging over our heads like the keystone yet he still killed it.
