I agree. The cup hasn't meant anything in years. The winner is whoever is in bed with High Times.
Really, i never thought of it that way...Is this just an opinion or have you got some information? Just wondering how you know this....just curious.
Anyone of TGA genetics are stupid fire
Is jack herer tga? i know it was used in jack the ripper...not sure if JH is tga tho.

Its pretty well known that the CUP has been rigged for years. Ive heard first hand from people there that the #1 winner hands down doesn't get picked.

Jack Herer was breed by Jack Herer, other breeders use it too including Sannie who has been working on it for over 10 years.

Did they change the real white widow name to black widow from Mr. Nice?
Here's a quote I found in another thread. It's from user Tagh.

"Alright all it's 1:11am where I'm at, EST. I want to see how long this thread takes :P. Just hit a couple bowls so I'm good to go. All right I have not grown these White Strain yet, but have learnt the history. I would like to share it with everybody so maybe you wont have to go through the hours and hours of reading I have went through.

1st The White strains I'm referring too as most know as; White Widow, White Rhino, El Nino, Great White Shark.

Now all these seeds are offered by Greenhouse Seeds. Much controversy goes on with this site. But as far as White Strains go Anjan (Current GHS Owner) does not have the original parents of these beautiful plants. In fact any breeder which offers the seeds under those names do not have the orignal parents.

Now all these White Strains are crosses of the White Widow, which is a Brazilian sativa x South Indian Indica. So we will start with the history behind the White Widow.

It all starts with Shantibaba, Neville Schoenmaker and Arjan GHS current Owner/Founder. While Shantibaba was working at Greenhouse Seeds he came up with the amazing White Widow, Ultimately becoming the owner of its Mother and Father. Continuning to work along side with Arjan winning multiple awards, Neville and Shantibaba developed a keen relationship working side by side on many different strains. During the 90's Shantibaba had also met Howard Marks (Mr.Nice) becoming very good friends with him. Now after the 1998 HTCC Awards, Shantibaba's relationship became to detiorate with his dutch partner (Arjan), Eventually causing Shantibaba to sell his share of Greenhouse Seeds Co. This becoming the introduction of Mr Nice Seeds. Shatibaba,Howard Marks, and Neville Schoenmaker along with White Widow's Orignal parents and the other White Strains Parents went off to do what they did best. Shantibaba relizing his strains I guess you can call being copyrighted, decide to change all their names. The Orignal plants have been changed to these names.

White Widow-Black Widow
White Rhino-Medican Man
Great White Shark-Shark Shock
El Nino-La Nina

I hope everybody enjoyed my post, I did not want to do too much in detail as I'm sure I would be here for much longer :P It is now 1:50AM, 40 Minutes not too bad.

For those who already knew this, feel free to add to anything I missed. For those who did not know, Now ya know :P

P.S I have also heard of two other breeders claiming to have the orignal parents of White Widow, but in the end it's BS, IMHO. "

I think it's pretty accurate.

Subcool (of TGA) had a nice long post/article which talked about the politics of the cup and the coffee house scene in general. I'm not 100%, but I don't think the average Joe's vote even counts for anything at the cup. It seems to be more of an expo and money making opportunity than a competition.

I gave some samples to a friend of mine. He said it was good. But it's not a "top shelf" strain. I'm quite disappointed needless to say... I wanna have the best of the best! I'm an egomaniac... Lol. What's some good top shelf strains? What makes it top shelf? I gave him a sample of super lemon haze. I also have jack herer growing. I bought the indica and sativa package from sannies. It consists of herijuana, anesthesia, jackberry, sannies jack, jackhammer, and killing fields. Are any of these "top shelf" strains? The sample I did give him wasn't grown as well as you would've grown it. I am still learning. They were kinda nute/light burned. If none of these are top shelf, do you guys have any suggestions? Basically I want whomever to smoke it, to have their assholes implode after one hit. Assuming that's "top shelf." Any help is appreciated. Thanks! :weed:
I think a top shelf strain needs to be a minimum of 16% thc. The most common true top shelfers I see are Jack Herer, Blue dream, xj13, certain types of AK, chem4, trainwreck, green crack, cotton candy, dragons breath, and strawberry cough. The final product of those strains isn't always top shelf, but all those strains have top shelf potential.

you can tell who is from cali by which strains they list. its pretty much always og kush, trainwreck, grandaddy purple, jack herer, xj13 or something along those lines.

White widow all time classic
I think that the widow is THE BEST. I have grown it 10 times and have never had any doubt about it. My MMJ friends pay 20 a gram at the clubs and offer me 45 a gram. So I am with him on this, you want top shelf do a widow grow and its sure to knock him on his ass
