transplanting from rock wool to smart pots

I have 3 moms that I started from clones in rock wool. They are currently in the 4 inch rock wool cubes and I've decided that I am going to move them into smart pots with soil. When I do this, do I need to try to remove the rock wool or can I just put the cube into the soil? I'm afraid I'll damage the roots if I try to peel away the rock wool in between the roots. Any thoughts??

I just did this not too long ago..although I didn't use smart pots..just plain 6 inch (with holes in the bottom for drainige) plastic pots. I just put about 2 inches of soil down as a base and then the rock wool then more soil around/on top of it. Easy cheesy HTH

That's what I figured. I think the roots will probably just go through the rock wool into the soil. Thanks for the verification!

Yeah, I did the same thing not too long ago. Just put the rockwool in the soil.

i have done this with rockwool plugs and 1 inch ones, with a 4 inch one you are gonna really have to let it dry out inbetween waterings, would be easy to over water 4 inches of rockwool. good luck
