Kaepernick isn't stupid. He made tens of millions as SF's QB. I don't know his finances but I'm pretty sure he could not work a day for the rest of his life and live in splendor if he plays his cards right.

Don't you think he knows that he doesn't have to work anymore? He chooses to keep his name in the conversation by staying active. He could shun the spotlight and retire but he's choosing to remain vulnerable to criticism -- from the WH, nonetheless. I'm sure he's getting death threats, threats of violence to his family and people close to him. He could have chosen to save himself the grief of all this attention and be financially secure. Instead, he's out there, keeping the conversation going and driving racists everywhere nuts.

He's not a great QB but better than many who are serving as starters, which only highlights the corrosive effects that racism has on society.

Kudos to Kaepernick. And you are right about a potential future in politics. He's going to have to work on communication skills, however. He's still an athlete and not a politician and it shows in some of his statements.

Once you are in politics you have support. The people around him will start to polish him right off. Hopefully he will take it upon himself to take some courses.

Good points.

Maybe we need a pc culture for racists so they won't have to bear the horror of seeing somebody peacefully protesting.

Maybe we should provide trigger warnings ahead of the Star Spangled Banner to warn the sensitive Trump supporter of a the possibility of being traumatized from seeing a black man kneeling in protest against cop shooting black men. Maybe we need safe zones in stadiums for racist fans to congregate during the national anthem too.

I just put the qualifying statement in that he's not ready yet to prevent somebody from pulling up one of his less polished statements and making hay with it.

To be honest, I don't really know if he's up to being a real political leader. He's certainly gaining political capital in his actions. He's done and said some really dumb things in the past. Don't know how much he's grown since then.

Just putting it out there that RG3 never even sniffed a job -- not even an interview.

In spite of the negative press, Kaepernick was interviewed and considered by teams for starting or backup positions. I hope you haven't twisted this around as Robert Griffen III somehow is getting less attention as a potential starting quarterback because he towed the line?

Whose heritage is that? What heritage is he talking about? The players are observing our heritage to peacefully protest legalized murders. The president of the US is trying to get African American football players fired for rebuking this country for our heritage of institutional racism in police forces. They specifically protest police who are literally killing black men for no good reason. Trump wants them fired and he wants to show how he can use his racist followers to corporate policies regarding social rights activism.

How is what Trump said not telling these men to get back in their place.

someone needs to tell mr. trump 'you're fired' is quite passe. he tried to rip one out and sounded like a bloated old drunk has-been sitting at the end of the local corner bar who you try to get past before he sees you and starts talking shit from back in the day.

If you are not dumb, you can be an effective pol. I have known plenty at all levels. Some of the seemingly worst prospects, Paula Hawkins of Fl., for example, rose steadily and no doubt would have run for Gov. or Senator but for an unfortunate accident.
