Trying indoor CFL and dirt. Great Googly Moogly. Pics from the first week.

Buds have taken off again. Huge production bump in the last couple days. More good quality pics coming today. It's looking more and more like I might just pull an ounce a plant (I'd like a lot more but my goal has been an ounce per plant).

I've got some errands to run first though... I've got the ignitor for my 400W HPS which I want to hang up today. With the 400w and the 2 150w plus all the side lighting I should hopefully get a little more production. Yay!

Update:

Lights: 400W HPS has bad transformer. New one on the way. Rearranged lights for more efficiency. Gunna pick up 2 more twin T8's today. At 15 bucks per loaded fixture for 6K lumens it's not bad and there's no heat penalty. The plants seem to like them too.

Strains: SnS Diesels (right & left tanks) are throwing pistils all over the place. There's over 20 vertical bud tips between the 2 plants. I think that's going to be a good producer. LST topping and super cropping were worth it so far. I need to pick up 3 more clones to start mothers from but I'm picky about strains and the actual clones. I'd like to get a Mazar a SnS Diesel and a Cheesel. We'll see. In any case, I'll be using those as mothers and proceed to flower the hell out of the clones I take from them.

Facilities: Pitching my small veg cabinet and moving up to something substantially larger so I can put 6 plants in veg state in separate pots in the area at one time and still have 3 mothers running. I also need to pick up a cloning kit and some rooting hormone.

Pics: My kid snagged my camera so I couldn't get pics yesterday. I'll get some today.

latino hybrid. Starting to flower nicely. Too bad it went into flower so early... it could have otherwise been a good producer.

Crippled hindu skunk. It's actually doing much better. Flowers are developing normally and non-deformed leaves are growing in.

Picked up a Jack's Old Time Haze (17-20 week flowering time) and a 707-headband yesterday. Put both of them in 8" pots with coco/perlite and hit em with a bit of nute water. Just as I pulled my hand out of the cabinet, bumped my 85W CFL 300W equiv ("compact"... yeah compact my ass it's a foot tall) and it blew up the ballast at the base... sparks a flyin' the whole thing. They're under a 150w equiv now till I get a chance to hit home depot. Gotta get a mogul base power cable today at lunch too so I can use a better light setup in the veg cabinet. I'm looking at 6 weeks of veg time on both of those. 9 weeks on the SnS diesel in my veg cabinet. I'm thinking of starting these into mothers. Probably just pick up another hybrid clone in a couple weeks.

I'm getting my 400W ballast core delivered today so that will be going in the flower room pretty soon. Do y'all think I should pull my 2x150W hps's out and then re-introduce them one at a time or just set the 400 off to the side and move it toward the plants gradually. I'll be upgrading my fan as well. Going from a 15" to a 21". The room is about 13sqft and 8ft tall.

SnS Diesels. Pistil growth has taken off. They're definitely in flower mode.
IMAG0197.jpg

New 400W HPS. It's not actually situated there. It's up top on the shelf in the closet shining down. Since I'm bringing it in so late I'm starting it 30" above the plants and I'll drop it down to 18" in a couple days. That's 700W of HPS running and ~300 real watts of florescent. The ballast kit cost 60 bucks and was a cinch to set up in my 20 dollar fixture.
IMAG0198.jpg

Jack's Old Time Haze. Pure Sativa. And a long ripening bitch. I'm looking at a 6 month stretch if I want to flower this one but I may mother it so I can always have some growing. The 707-HB is in there with it but under that top layer of coco there's a plastic divider keeping their root balls separate. I only have room for 2 8" pots in the veg cabinet right now and the other SnS diesel in there is taking up a LOT of room. After topping it it spit a crap ton of new growth out.
IMAG0199.jpg

So, what'cha think. Doing ok for a n00b?

W00t! Got my 400W HPS set up. It's washing my SnS diesels in beautiful penetrating light from 20" or so above. I'll lower that new light gradually as the SnS's get used to it. The 2 150W HPS are now both hovering over the top of the Mazar/MyDawg pair. 700 watts of high pressure sodium. I'll take pics later today. The nugs on the MyDawg are positively dripping in crystals. The Mazar isn't being so dramatic but is still looking really really nice. I don't know if the increase in light will help the buds that are 5 weeks in but it'll sure help the ones that are only 1 week in. I have to go get another packet of coco today to set up the pots for he next set.

Jack's Old Time Haze and 707-HB. They're looking much more lively today. They've been a little sad for a couple days.

SnS Diesel. This is going to be huge when I finally get to toss it into the flower room. It's already bigger than any plant I've flowered so far.

Can you believe this is just 2 sweet and sour diesels? Awesome. I think this counts as some sort of "xxxxxx of green". No screen, but boy it's a sea of growth.

The heart of Mazar.
SA400032.jpg

Trichomes look mostly clear, a few cloudy, no amber yet that I can make out. My camera kinda sucks at the macro game so it's hard to get a good pic. The HPS lights don't help with color rendering at all either.

My next SnS diesel may be a lone plant. With the LST vegging it's really getting big. I'm afraid I'll have to put it in its own container to let the roots spread out.

Any yeild bets?

those plants are starting to look icky sticky mmmmm mmmmm gooood! i am guessing 3 ounces off each plant. they look good enough to eat like an apple.

I doubt 3oz in total on the more mature set to tell you the truth... but we'll see. Maybe a miracle will happen. They are pretty dense already and this is supposed to be the time that they put on a lot of mass with all the calyx swelling. Honestly I'm hoping for something around an ounce a plant dry weight. We'll see how that turns out.

wowzors! thanks for the link. That guy seems about as anal-retentive as me. I tend to my plants for about an hour a day. Sometimes that's mostly spent just looking at them but they get their carbonated water and feedings and 3 episodes of south park a day (I'm hoping the repeated towelie episodes will add a wacky element to the buds :) ).

My currently flowering SnS diesels have stems in the 10-11mm thick range right now. The mydawg and mazar have about 8-10mm tick stems. The SnS diesel in my veg cabinet has a 11mm thick stem already. If stem girth is directly related to the ability to uptake nutrients to the plant and grow fruit/flowers then the 3rd grow ought to be exciting. In any case, those diameters should give you a better idea of plant size. The old girls are 22" tall. The newer ones are about 12" at the highest but around 10" high on average as of yesterday. My newest SnS in the veg cabinet is 16" tall already.

The 707-HB took a real turn for the better. Seeing some new growth and the leaves are facing upward distinctly now. Same with the Jack's Old-Time Haze. It really picked up. I haven't seen a difference with plants taking up lots of CO2 with sudden growth spurts in flower but with the vegging plants it seems like they LOVE seltzer water sprayed on the leaves. I've never seen plants grow that fast and suddenly without them being in flower.

Looked this morning at Jack and 707. Jack grew 1/2" overnight, pure vertical growth. I'm pretty stoked about that. It's a really hard strain to grow. 707 is going to be an issue. It's doing great now but it's soooo tall and lanky. I'm trying to figure out how to train it without killing it. So far I've got a nice 90deg bend in the main stalk (nice and gentle) but I know it's going to end up needing some sort of sophisticated support system. Anyone ever grow one like a vine?

More growth for Jack. It's really taking off. I hope I'm able to get that up to where I can make a mother of it. My other SnS diesel I think is going to be mom'd too.

Mydawg has some obvious flower growth. Might just yank >1oz from it. Mazar, not as much but some fattening. It's really starting to look ripe but the leaves haven't yellowed at all. I need to try and pick up a microscope today. They needed water on one side of the bin but not really on the other. It does that. I think the root balls are biased over that that side since it was shaded back in the early days and the other side wasn't.

The flowering pair of SnS diesels are getting fat with flowers. The flower tops on the larger branches have already started to take on the characteristic shape of a bud. I trimmed some of the undergrowth that was doomed to be heavily shaded and pulled a couple fan leaves that were shading some of the smaller bud tips in the middle area. Raised the lights by 1 link and gave them a good feed. Coco eats nutes. I need to get a gallon next time. A quart of botanicare PBPG or GH bloom is about enough for 1 full coco grow. Plus you still need a pint of cal-mag. I think the buds will be better from the coco though. The plants are just so much more vigorous than the mazar/mydawg/soil setup.

I need to pick up some cloning supplies but I think I'm about ready to give it a proper try. I've found a strain I like to grow (SnS Diesel) and that I seem to do ok with (so far) and a hobby strain (Jack) that I'd like to keep a couple copies of going. I'll still take to the club occasionally for new blood though.

Jack is growing! Look at all that space between leaves. This is going to be a fun one to grow.
IMAG0211.jpg

I'm kinda proud of the short internodes and that most all the branches come off one side of the stalk.
IMAG0212.jpg

Went down and got a 60-100x microscope today along with a little dab of cloning gel and some grodan cubes. I'm gunna hit OSH on the way home and grab a small hydroponic cloning kit, hit Home Depot for another 65W CFL and hit lowes for a fixture and I should be cloning by tonight.

Trichomes on the MyDawg are almost evenly split between clear and cloudy with a few amber here and there. I'm going to give it a couple more days and see if the clears cloud or if the clouds go amber and decide to pull it or not based on that. Buds are decently dense and appear to be frosting up a bit so I'm inclined to be patient and see if they dense up a bit. I'm seeing definite calyx swelling there.

Mazar buds are rock hard. Most trichomes are clear. A modest percentage are cloudy. None are amber yet. I can see a new wave of trichome development starting so I'm giving that probably at least another week. I'm starting the flush this weekend. I hadn't planned on the MyDawg ripening so fast.

Never made it to OSH/Home Despot/Lowe's yesterday. I'll try again today.

SnS Diesel in veg. I'm about to start taking clones of this baby.
IMAG0212.jpg

I took my first 6 proper clones last night. Pulled 6 cuttings from my vegging SnS Diesel and hit em with some Rootech gel and stuck em in grodan blocks. They're under a 300W equivalent 65W CFL and humidity hood. I really hope they live. I leaf feed em every 6-8 hours and I've got a cup of carbonated water in there too.

I've got 3 chambers now, clone cabinet, veg cabinet and the flower room.

I re-examined my flowering girls. Turns out I chose a very ripe MyDawg lower flower which was not representative of the rest in my first examination. Trichomes are actually mostly clear still with a few cloudy. Mazar is all clear with maybe a couple clouded. I pulled the bottom popcorn buds off both plants and have those drying. Didn't manicure them really at all though. Those newly harvested popcorns are just for a taste before the big girls mature.

I grow fat, sticky, dank, green, nugs.

Also picked up a pair of Blue Dream clones yesterday. I now have 5 in veg, 5 in flower and 6 in the cloning chamber. I'm considering taking one of the Blue Dreams to be a Mother so I can have a Jacks-Old-Time-Haze, Blue Dream, and SnS Diesel growing in rotating crops so I've always got 3 strains in process.

Blue dream clones have grown about an inch. Jack is up a full inch from when I got it. 707-HB is throwing new leaf sites out.

SnS diesels in flower are making some dense and tall nugs. Looking forward to >2oz from those two plants. Mazar and MyDawg are going great. MyDawg is putting on lots of density. Mazar is growing taller buds. The Mazar flowers are pretty dense to begin with.

Clones are still alive and not looking particularly sad or happy. I give them a leaf feeding a couple times a day. 13 days till harvest of the big girls.
