Two 1000's or three 600's

Right i hear ya,but what im sayn is that having the light closer = denser buds and higher yield. Now the argument goes that if you have a 1000 that produces 150000 lumens and that light is 2.5 feet from the tops you losing some lumens. And if a 600 produces around 90000 lumens, but is a foot or more closer. you would be just as if not more efficient. Like i said ive never grown with 1000's , but the argument seems reasonable.
That argument is correct, to a point (but it more often abused for the theory of it by people who've never grown before*) - the issue is balancing out the light's distance with its coverage.

Personally, I like having my 1000s mounted up nice and high and getting even coverage across a larger footprint.

You ever see a picture of a commercial op? Do those lights look to be 1' away to you, or more like 2-3 feet above the plant height?

They're higher, because if your light is that close to your plant, the effective footprint is minimized - the only plant that will get good light is directly under it, leaving all the others to suffer, even if they're within the 3x3 footprint recommended.

* Not saying it's being misused by you or that you've never grown before, just that a lot of people spout that argument without knowing that they're talking about.

HAHA ya people who know not do try to argue sometimes...lol anyway this is the idea. To have at least 25 plants and yield a solid 3 pounds out of a 10x10 area either with 3 600's or two 1000's or maybe a single 1000 on a light mover. This will b a non stop grow room. Clones from my mothers go to flower: you get the drill..lol I just want the most bang for the buck while taking factors like heat and wiring...

Um, unless I'm missing something, generally the "closer to the tops" my light is, the worse overall coverage I have.

1Ks can be hung higher (further from the plants), which gives you "better coverage", especially on the perimeter.
Without question I would do 2x1000. Heat? Anyone with any reasonable amount of power needs to run cool tubes. My 1000's hoods produce zero heat. They are litteraly room temp.

Yes you don't even have to lower them. Mount them up high and call it a day.

Lastly, the price of a 600 (hood, light, bulb, ballast) is basically the same as 1000w. If yield is your goal you are spending too much money on three 600's when you can do the same with 2x1000. When it's time to buy three lights it's time for another tray.

With three lights I would have a 4x8 tray with 2x1000 and another 4x4 tray with a single 1000w over it.

Who would yield more? Me with a combined 4x12 tray and 3000w. I don't think it would be even close against 3x600 over a 4x8.

Yield fixes everything. If you need three lights you need another tray.

If you're running a 10x10 area, I'd run 4 1Ks in there (at least, in all honesty).

You could get away with 3 on a mover, but doing the math, you have a 100 sq foot room - you need AT LEAST 4 1Ks to get you to 40 watts/sq. foot, which is the minimum amount you want for dense nugs.

Agree 100% with everything said here; the only reason I'd be "downgrading" to 600s would be for the better light coverage for the footprint I'd be growing under.

Everything else equal, I'll take a 1K all day.

true, but this will be in a tent so maybe 9x9 i havent found the right tent yet... either way the actual grow space will like 3 3x3's 9 plants in each space. Right now i have two 600's in two separate 4x4 tents. I figured that that will b enough light.

If each light is covering just a 3x3 area (could get away with 3.5x3.5, if not a touch more), then yes, that's plenty of light.

For that size tent, however, I'd still prefer 4 1Ks over 4x4 trays.

I'd do that if I had the space and the power available (only had the electrician wire me up for 60 amps in the garage, like an asshole).

ya thats a whole nother issue, the power... I wanna do this in a basement and il have to set up like two 20 amp circuits to runs the tent and the mother tent. How much did you get charged for an electrician??? Cause i dont wanna fuck around with that. I dont know dick about setting that up. Growin good weed i can do..lol but power not my thing. bongsmilie

He charged me $500 to run two 20amp circuits into my garage (already had one out there).

I told him it was for a "man cave", and stupidly, when he asked if I wanted one of the circuits to be 240V (for my "kegerator"), I said "no".

Could run 4 1Ks in there with a simple "yes" to that question, but such is life.

ya i gotta get those two 20's installed soon.. Im lucky right now cause i can run all my stuff off one circuit, but that will soon change.

ive read 600s put out the most lumens per watt and are most effective i say the 6iz
Yield fixes everything.

So what if you save $20 on your utility bill. What if you yield an extra half a P. Do you want nugs or to save a few bucks. I would rather have an extra $2k of herb.

i say 2 1000w and 3 600 :) all at once, 1000w wil penetrate a canopy a little better if your growiong trees but if your keep them med to small 600wers would work

If you're in the position and the luxury of splurging where money isn't much of a big deal, you'd have to be a fool not to go with the 1000 watters. Now, there are many factors to consider like heat, power consumption and efficiency of course, but no matter what the arguments are at the end of the day, 1000w produce larger and denser buds. Period.

So, what I do since I can't throw money around, I've got 2 600W air-cooled lights on a light-mover. That way I can get the bulb within 6 inches of the canopy. Plenty of lumens there as far as I'm concerned...

But, how sweet it would be to have 2 1000W instead!!! I could even get plants much closer together too!! Good luck with your decision :leaf:

get the 1000's, 3 of them isnt much more and in the same area those efficent 600's could be you would have almost double the light, increasing chances of posative things

hey guys, i really dig this thread...good points all around... I am in a similar situation, i have a 9x9 room and i am debating on the 600 vs 1000.....in "theory" the 600 is a better light, however realestically, it would cost me $900 more to go with 600w lights and have the same amount of total watts. Sure they run cooler however, is it really that much of a difference? Also, do you guys think 4 1000w light will spike my bill so high the electric company will have something to say? ive heard 1k per bedrooms is the most you want to go, is this true?

ya 1k per room is righ, but then again if you just pay your bill ontime and dont raise suspision. Then whose to say your not just runniNg a welder or a few extra meat freezers or hottub, space hearters or whaatever. As long as you dont have like a 8-10k draw every 12 hours llike clockwork you will b fine. Shit im still undecided on with light configuration to go with her tho..bongsmilie

I'd go with the 600's I am just about to get rid of my 1000's and replace them with 600's. They are just so much more efficient...:-)
