A fascist state has one party under the leadership of a dictator. No dissent is allowed, and whatever role the capitalists have in that system is at the whim of the dictator and his cronies. Fascism was an outgrowth from destabilized European states after WW1 that had been under monarchy rule before-hand. The idea was that no state could survive without being in permanent state of high military alert and under leadership with total control. Maintaining a large army is expensive, so military conquest was necessary to justify these armies and, so the theory went, to help pay the bills.

No disagreement in the idea that fascist states of the 20th century employed many tactics currently used by today's US government and European rulers of the 17th century, for that matter. Its your text in bold that actually makes my point that the US govt of today isn't a fascist state. We have two parties that aren't in lock step. Also, no dictatorship. If anything, we are under an oligarchic rule or at least we are heading in that direction. Think China's political system as the end point that our wealthy class are steering us towards. Fascist dictators are too hard for the wealthy class to control. That's not where the oligarchy wants us to go, probably the only point that I agree on with the moneyed elite.

So now what? Have a riot and get shot by police who then face 'justice' at the hands of their coworkers over at the prosecutor's office?! As we see in the news every day, that works out fine for rich white people. For everyone else, not so much.

Vote for Bernie? Sure, if we get the chance- I'm an inveterate gambler on the future, and frankly I'm betting we won't. Don't get me wrong, I'll be busting my ass to make it happen, but I believe the powers that be will orchestrate some way to prevent his ascension.

I can only hope it's clumsy and obvious enough for even the rank and file republican to be disgusted by, and decide to take action to preserve his own God Given civil rights against a tyrannical government that's out of control, unaccountable to the people and unwilling to help in time of need.

The truth is, this very situation already exists in our country. It's only through the massive efforts of propagandists on every media platform that most people do not wake up to the reality of our situation.

In recent history, real change for the better has been accomplished by non-violent opposition over a long period to oppressive conditions. In history, very rarely have leaders of violent revolution have been willing to let go of power once they've gotten it. I think we need to reject violence as a means to an end. While I'm not a pacifist, the current situation hasn't progressed to the point where violent revolution should be considered.

The hard part is sorting out the truth from the noise in the news. No wonder the public is divided. When I have a good talk with most conservatives I find that we mostly want the same things for our society and the future. We often disagree on priorities for what needs to be done but I think that kind of disagreement is healthy.

That said, the oligarchy must be opposed within the framework of our democratic system and in nonviolent manner.

Not that I expect you to actually cite a source but ...can you back up your statement? Show me I'm wrong based upon valid news and reports (valid is not Fox news). Your opinion is not valid as a source either.

Bernie is doing pretty well considering he was practically unknown on a national level a couple of years ago. Polls show him beating Trump by larger numbers than Clinton would. He's trending up in the opinion polls.

The US civil rights movement was by and large non-violent. Also Gandhi managed it. But it depends on the opponent --.his tactics wouldn't have been effective against Imperial Japan, at least I don't think it would. I also don't think I would have the nerve to non-violently face police dogs and fire-hoses. Non-violent opposition takes more guts than I have..

Segregationists lost public support when they violently suppressed non violent protesters. Armed black protesters in 1950's Alabama wouldn't have gotten very far. Just saying that people use violence when they have lost their argument and very soon lose authority in public opinion too.
