Useful things in the garden...

Hi Everyone!

I'm preparing a very expensive order for a new setup and while I have most everything figured in my setup, it's very VERY expensive in shipping 100'$$$. So I'm trying to maximize my "savings" while shopping online for any random useful guizmos I should need.
Just shoot whatever Item or article which you wish you knew about when you first started.
I'm not a first time grower, but hell I feel like I forgot something , and I always forget something even if I think I have everything so if you guys could lend me a hand it could save me a lot of time, shipping time and shipping expenses :)

Just as a sneak peak...
Secret Jardin DR120W tent & DP90
CoolTube

Help on the lighting in the DP90 for clones and bonsai moms would be greatly appreciated :)

Did I ever say how much I hate fedex? (200$ for shipping :0)

Maybe it's not so much a case of things you forgot to buy...but things you wish you hadn't bought?

Wish I'd never bought Ph up/down...it's in my supermarket shelf...or any "specialist" Herb nutes...they're in the garden centre etc. etc.

(We all forget a 60x magnifying glass though!)

Here's my list so far:
2x4 secret jardin tent
cool tube
400w mh bulb
trimming cutters
mister & sprayer
bluelab ph tester
ona block
rootech cloning gel
microscope (I did forget)
Thermometer and hygrometer

What else could I need?

It would be a better idea (imho) to buy a 600w MH/HPS kit in case you ever want to increase your tent size. Buy one that you can dim to 75% and 50% (effectively allowing you to run it at 400w).

Also, you're going to need an inline fan, and with it, may as well get a carbon filter. You'll need it to cool the tube and the tent. I have my fan sucking through the filter inside the tent, then blowing it through the cooltube and exhausting out of the tent. Take my word on it. I currently have the exact same tent you do (2x4x5), so you might as well set it up right from the beginning so you don't have to dismantle everything and redo it all.

A 600w dimable cooltube that includes both bulbs is ~$200. The fan/filter combo is about the same.

I don't know about that brand of pH tester, but it may require you to buy calibration liquid. You may also need a humidifier or dehumidifier, but that will come after you're set up and you get a feel for your particular environment.

Geopots, they have the velcro on the side of their fabric pots and you can up-pot with almost 0 stress to the plants. I am a huge fan of the fabric pots since I like to be as hands off as possible. Need a couple sizes depending on your space and the number of plants you plan on growing.

Not to sound like a butthead, but maybe just start with the basics (tent, fans, lights), get a soil grow under your belt, then buy all that other stuff. Unless you're an experienced grower than I apologize, but as sworth said, sometimes what you buy you find over-complicates or you're simply not using it.

But good luck anyway and happy growing!!!

Yep I am somewhat experienced, just looking for things that might simplify my life a little bit...
things I might not be able to get locally like those geopots, I actually need some more pots ;)
Greners actually contacted me to tell me about a USPS option

OK SunnyH, then as I said I apologize. If you're going hydro focus on a GOOD ph tester, and if money is not a problem than def. a 600w HPS with a cool tube. Get a good 6" duct-fan and run it off a thermostat controller.

Any recommendations on a thermostat controller for a fan?

edit actually for fan and light, would love to add in a high temp cut off for my light, but haven't had any luck finding one.

I have the Speedmaster and it does the job. But for a high temp or low temp cutoff you'll need a thermostat as well

No recommendations on a fan, I just got mine at Home Depot. For my exhaust fan I have it on a timer. I know some people who use this as a temp controller - you mount it somewhere in your grow space and it will turn on when a certain temp that you set is reached, and shut off when the temp return to where you want it:

Actually I have a 400w and I wish I could switch to a 600w but my electrical wouldn't permit it hehe
so until I move it'll be a 400w :(

I use the BLUELAB pH pen.

A warning about storing this pen.

DO NOT STORE IT IN PH4 SOLUTION AS RECOMMENDED IN THE BOOKLET.

BLUELAB themselves (emailed them personally) recommend either plain tap water in the end or KCI solution.

NOT 4 or 7 SOLUTIONS!!!!

Remember if it dries it dies.
