“Utility company’s proposal to rat out hidden marijuana operations to police raises privacy concerns” in Maine

The industry is quite a bit of the wild west. There was something like 2000 store fronts selling pot in NYC only 30 or so were legal. Often the illegal operations don't follow rules, like certified electricians to do wiring. Home growers that enjoy their fruits of the labor are not likely to do something that would risk health. Where if money is your only concern about what your crop will do for you, you might follow others paths to make your product look good.
It might be a rights concern, but is the safety of the community more important than illegal behavior.
