Arguing that marijuana smoke could potentially damage rental units and disturb neighbors, a group of landlords has said it wants the ability not only to add a no-pot-smoking clause to leases, but to change existing leases to add the clause.

Currently, landlords can ban smoking cigarettes in rental units, but can only enforce the ban or evict a tenant they catch smoking by proving the smoke is bothering other tenants or damaging the unit.

Because smoking marijuana isn’t yet legal, there’s currently no framework in place that allows landlords to ban it.

What do you think?

Who owns this property ..?

you signed the lease ...?

you agree with the terms ..?

so you stick with those terms

just as you do with your property

as its his asset not yours

good luck

I own a condo at this stage in my life..
People in the New building already hot box their units. Sure some people complain but what can they do rightly?
Not a friggin thing.
Nor will they be able to come new laws..

everyone WILL JUST HAVE TO GET USED TO THE STINK lol
Its not like it reeks all day 24/7 365...

can filter business is gonna go NUTS once everyone figures out a can system will indeed rid most units of any smells.. JOB Folks lol ;)

think another spin off business op....small start up and huge potential with weak willed landlords...who worry about the smells
their tenants make...though It could be excessive curry to aerosol paint cans... they already factor that into security deposits and the like..
so they realize they are gonna have to at least paint between tenants.

good on you whatfg...
nothing wrong with doing the right thing.....
my kids do not like the smell....of burning cannabis..used to complain that they would get head aches.
Now I only smoke in my office...doors shut and exhaust fan on....
unfortunately I can not do outside in the middle of winter.....the cold cripples me...and I would cough hard
risking neck re injury....

Bathroom with the exhaust fan on always worked well for me in places I rented. I don't mind the smell I was just never big on my place reeking like weed.
I don't rent anymore, but I would think it will be treated the same as cig smoking.
Cheers :)
That's right ...it takes very little to comply and to each.... his or her own....
cig's in my opinion stink worse than cannabis,,,,acrid smelling smoke...
gross actually....once you quit you will smell what the rest of the people smell....
and wonder why you could not smell it on yourself before

Having just now gone over a year cig free ( after 22 years of a pack a day) It is incredible how strong the smell is to me. I now know what everyone was bitching at me about who didn't smoke lol
Cheers :)

I realize some people just love smoking but honestly if you are a renter the easiest way to avoid the headache of fighting with a landlord over this is to either vape or smoke outside (while possibly breaking provincial laws doing so).

Cannabis smoke does not damage rental units like cigarette smoke, I understand why landlords are worried but their worry is unnecessary.
