Maybe so, but it's still better than using trichs for a guage of readiness, imo.

Why not?
White pistils turn brown, recede and calyx swell.. New white pistils appear. At that point its your call on whether to let them keep on growing or chop.
Nothing wrong with doing either

Depends on the strain. For example PCG's Gush Mints will keep throwing pistols a for a while after it's peak potency. They do a lot of testing on their cuts to determine the best harvest window, and in the case on that strain, if you don't have any white pistols, you've most likely harvested too late.

I wonder what's in the GMs causing that? Chem 4 and a lot her crosses are known to continue throwing new pistols as well. Many of the Chem cuts are quite sensitive and require a strong but gentle finish...if ya know what I mean.

I was going to comment the same. Greenpoint seeds Wild West series of strains would tend to do that (throw new pistils closer to harvest)

I just recently made the determination that it's time to cut down this Strawberry Cheesecake auto. There are a few lingering white pistils that kept coming up, but I thought I'd try a "squeezing the bud" method along with how long they've been fattening up, the color, and my previous experience. Which there is not a lot, compared to some of you guys. I also based it on the number of white pistils that were on the bud earlier in the grow, along with doing a couple of testers early. I don't care if I was a bit early, it's still going to be good smoke.

Nice !! I'm noticing some yellow leaves up on the buds, your grow looks a lot like mine late flower. Maybe those yellow leaves that make it to my buds arent so bad after all or are naturally occuring late flower?
Cant help you on harvest time here, you stumped me. Leaves are yellowing (a sign shes's close), but I see what your saying about white pistols, those would leave me wondering a bit too. Have you looked at the trics under a loupe? Looks cloudy to me, I'd say your in the window of "the weed will get you high now" Once your there your good, who cares if its a bit early or a bit late, you'll kill yourself second guessing. (although my gut says a little longer....OHHH NOOOO Im becoming one of those Cackling Hyena's-------- AT LEAST 5 more weeks !!!!

Part of the yellowing is because on this plant, I only gave water for the last week or so. The GSC I grew was fed right up to the chop. I don't listen to a lot of lip service as I prefer to test stuff out myself. Just to see what happens. But I'm also pretty confident in my growing ability and how to read the plants at this stage of my growing experience.
It's not rocket surgery.

I've looked at many harvest pics, even on the seedbanks, and a little yellowing and leaf loss late flower seems to be OK. As a new grower though, I have seen people go through the entire flower process green and healthy, maybe its the strain, late flush etc... I'm not sure and am still figuring this out. Here is mine, a bit stunted compared to my last grows, but you can already see the hairs turning brown at start week 7 of flower after 12/12 (I have to say all that due to the multiple definitions of flower timing).... I'm planning to go 60 days (9 weeks) but we'll see. The longer the better, I want them as fat as they can get....
For those interested in low odor strains, I raised the lights and dropped the temperature this grow and there is almost no odor yet at week 7 flower after 12/12---(I have to say all that due to the multiple definitions of flower timing)....Also, cutting down the number of colas and trimming lower flowers has really cut down odor.... I may sacrifice a little in harvest, but I cant have Pepe Le Pew dancing all over my laundry room..This is a secret grow in a small box !

I've seen a group of what I like to call "Cackling Hyenas" here on the board. If someone is asking " Is it Harvest time yet" its not so much the answer, its the condescending and unhelpful manor that bugs me. Be nice, F, this is weed man ! We should all be cool here, not bickering like uptight dorks,, Chill, smoke some of your bud and come back to reply when you are feeling better....
Another one that bothers me.... (Yes you Burger King 78----- is the way they laugh and slam others misfortunes.) You got spider mites HAHA>>>>> throw it away start over....... Be sensitive, thats a real bummer when things go south after much hard work. Why act like an ass about it?
