I did a little research on DiAngelo and Harbourside. Most of what I found was what I already knew. But I also found some rather disturbing stuff. Since some of you appear to know more about the scene (community, industry, whatever your preferred term is) than others I thought I would mention it here and see if I could get more info or clarification.
The information I found appears to place Don Duncan behind the scenes of Harbourside and pulling DiAngelos strings. Duncan is accused of some pretty shady (and rather shocking) practices involving local politics. (I prefer to let you locate the info yourselves. I do not wish to post possibly libelous information, especially when I am trying to vet this information, on a public forum.) After watching Weed Wars I was left with the same question many of you seem to have. How do a group pf people who appear to have a less than stellar grasp of business knowledge build and run a business like Harbourside? Someone else pulling the strings seems to make sense. However, since this is a "reality" show, likely 90% of it was scripted, including the apparent incompetence. (I would almost be willing to bet dollars to donuts that the tax hearing was scripted, too) For all I know the Harbourside crew may be brilliant in real life.
My question / query is: Does anyone know if the rumors of Duncans involvement are true? Or do you have any information that would be helpful? I should mention that this is for my own curiosity, I am not involved in the movement the way people like DiAngelo are. Since I am new here and only have a couple of posts it could easily appear as though I have an anti-Steve agenda, (I don't) so I wanted to try and allay any concerns that may come up.
As for the show, I thought it was poorly done, but on par for a "reality" show. I do think that the show as a whole does not show the MMJ, or recreational MJ users for that matter, in a positive light.
I do think it's pretty sad that there is so much negativity in this thread towards LGBT people, for many reasons. Makes me want to show up at the next convention in braids and a pink tutu. Heh heh. Seriously though, there are a lot of gay or trans people who partake. Not only is that an entirely new group of people to smoke with, it's a whole group of people that will stand with us in the fight, who have fought their own battle and can help us manage our own battles, whether medical or recreational. Not to mention that most gay people are DINKS with lots of disposable income.
