I live at 55deg N. in Canada so there are few (I'm not sure there are any whatsoever actually) regular strains that will finish by October since the july daylength is 1 hour longer than more southern places like Ottawa (where the seeds Im wanting to grow were bred). Everything else about my climate is almost identical except mine is a little better since its a little less humid in the fall and a little cooler in the summer time. My ONLY obstacle is the 1 hour of extra daylight in july when the plants are supposed to start flowering.
So now you understand my dilemma, here's my proposed solution:
A slight modification to the garbage bag method:
1. Keep plants in 3 gal pots
2. Starting July 1st, cover the plants with a couple 95gal garbage bags (one from bottom and one from top) aprox 1 hour before sunset or synchronized with Ottawa's sunset.
3. Move plants into a dark shady area so they are impossible to see from above
3. Aprox. 1-2 hours later, after the sun has set, move the plants to their original location and remove the garbage bags so mold doesnt set in.
4. Aprox. 4-6 weeks later, once flowering is under way and our daylength has become much closer to Ottawa's, put the plants in the ground and let nature do the rest.
Now, our days start getting shorter at a much faster rate than Ottawa so I think Ill only have to do it for about a month. (which Im fine with) and I really dont think having a bag on the plant for an hour or two is going to have any effect on mold. My only concern is that the bag will let too much light in but I learned of this method on this forum and people say it works, so Ill trust their experience over my skepticism and give it a shot I think.
What do you guys think?
p.s.- If I am wrong and there actually are NON-autoflowering strains (including iranian auto flower) that will finish at 55deg N. by the end of September please let me know!
here is my climate info:
p.p.s- the strains I want to grow are Endless Sky, and Iranian Chemdawg. (dr greenthumb)
Thanks everyone!
