sorry bro, that might be my ignorance, but I thought all the parts are Chinese and built there. I have nothing against them at all, they are great value. Do you have backup for that? I'm very intreagued now.
HLG is an American company. HLG actually started the whole quantum board thing. Others just copied it. Timber and ChilLed are 2 more quality American companies for LED's. There are other quality lights made in other countries too though. I'm not a fan of the knockoffs personally. Anyways, HLG gets the best diodes, and they don't all come from China.

Something like this might work good. Or just use LED light bulbs and take the domes off. You could do different spectrum's then. Some daylight and some warm or cool depending on how you wanna mix it. Daylight only's probably best for veg though.

OP is Original Post. I'm thinking 8 of the strips Airwalker posted, but not sure what driver. I haven't given such small lights much thought.
This is a setup I've used, Bridglux EB Gen 2 strips powered with a 20v laptop supply and this dimmer.

I have one of those old chargers around here some where. I never thought of using that kinda stuff to power boards. I guess it's basically a driver, converting AC to DC. That's cool. You got me thinking. I'm gonna have to do some more research.

I wonder if it could work using an old computer power supply too. Not that I would want to listen to the fan, but I'm curious now. I turned an old PS into a DC power supply that can give off 3.3, 5 or 12V depending on which plugs I plug into.

how do you wired everything up and how did you go about adding them strips to a heat sink. could i add then to aluminium tubing or is a single sheet better.
do i need to solder then or do the wires just push in and self contain. i have a soldering iron but i do suck at it so less soldering the better. i can tin wires ok

do you cut the end connector off the Laptop AC Charger Power Adaptor after the brick and just connect the negative and positive to the in side of the Dimmer Switch Control then connect the lights to the output with just two wired red/black negative and positive. someone said you do the strips in series im not exactly sure what that is. ill start looking it up .
is 8 strips the max that can be used or the Laptop AC Charger Power Adaptor. if i was to run 7 would it be less strain on the adaptor

with the end of the AC Charger Power Adaptor connector what is that bulb thing and can i cut below it or must i keep that on the cord

You got it. Strips have push in connectors. LED can be wired in series, but this setup is parallel, connect all the strips positves together and all the negatives together. Don't worry about the exact number of strips, it depends on the wattage of the power supply and the dimmer controls how much of that wattage is used. It's better to spread a given amount of power over more strips, better light spread, they run cooler, last longer and it's a little more efficient.

The strips linked are 7 watts at test current, 14w max and can run up to about 10W naked, no heat sink at all. For such a small light, I'd probably put them on an aluminum sheet with double sided thermal tape or screws. I used dirt cheap Chinese heat sink paste and zip ties on one light and also hung them from the top of a cardboard grow box with string or wire. It doesn't have to be elaborate or complicated. ;-)

Forget what I said about 8 strips, I'd use 2-3 for veg and 4-6 for flower.
You can try that 19.5v Dell supply, but the ones I tried were closer to 19v and the strips need 19.5v to run at rated power. I used a 20v supply that I have. With a 19.5v Dell supply, you might get enough light to veg with 4-6 strips.

It's a ferrite core to suppress radio frequency interference, never had a problem removing them.

An HLG65 with a dimmable driver would be perfect for that size tent and then they could flower in there, too, if they ever want to.
I was going to mention that and forgot. :wall:
It's more money, but sure is easy!

i was going to get the hlg-65 but no way in hell am i spending $300 for that small of a light. maybe i will end up getting something like that but im a try the strips 1st. i will try 4 strips in parallel and see if they pop or run. i have this old bored that came out of a marzhydro light. is there a way i can drive this at around 50 watts or less

Half of a cheap 300 blurple worked fine --- maybe 120w until it was fixed.

Go reliable - the above all look better than what I used.
Line the enclosure with highly reflective material - that small of an area benefits from good reflective materials.

edit - fwiw, the light you list is 300mm / 11.8" - watch the heat on the sides!

its only a veg light pretty much anything would be better then what im using now but i still dont want to spend much
i flower under a spider farmer sf 2000 in a 2.5x2ft space.

The first one you posted certainly should work fine for veg.
I would just be very wary of heat and clearance - 11.8" aluminum plate in a 12" enclosure is not a lot of clearance.
A twist in the rigging could put a pretty hot surface in contact with the sides of the enclosure and risk a fire ( ok, my inner Dad has gone back to his nap...)
Probably need to run dimmed to avoid bleaching as well.

The HLG65 is $99. Where are you seeing it for $300?
