ofcourse, the return is the knowledge that i allowed a simple mind to have a moment of happiness.....knowledge and selflessness are the currency of the universe and i like to share my wealth...dont get me wrong i dont run around helping old ladies across the street lol but i mean the little things even making someone smile, because if im making someone smile and forget their troubles then guess what, im probably smiling and have forgotten mine for a moment as well!

This is the part I don't understand. You claim to have a scientific rational mind but with this very important question, you prefer bypass your brain and go with your 'feeling?' Do you 'think' that it is impossible that we are the product of natural, very non-purposeful processes? If so, why? What kind of thinking led you to believe that the story that science gives us, that we are the product of nature, must be wrong?
 
no dude hes right i posted the same thing on page one...im very scientific but the more you look at science the more it tells you its impossible for us to have fallen into place and just come into existence.....think of it this way life is sooooo intricuit so if you take a million monkeys and give them a typwriter they can hit buttons literally forever and none of them will ever recreate a shakespeare...this is the same as life it can really scientifically never just come from chance

What if there was no smile, absolutely no acknowledgement of gratitude? Would you still do nice things?
 
hey now your making it real hard to be a nice person in your hypothetical world lol.....idk it would depend on if i still felt that happiness from doing what i thought was good for someone else i guess....

The more I study science the more everything seems to come together and make sense. It all really seems pretty basic.

As organic beings, it should be clear our makeup and origins lie in the field of Biology. As the hole goes deeper, it's obvious Chemistry is responsible for the mechanisms in Biology. Continuing on this same path, you learn Chemistry only works because of properties described by the field of Physics.

Biology > Chemistry > Physics - everything is deducible to Physics if you go far enough back.

When that was explained to me, it clicked a switch in my brain and everything instantly seemed to make a lot more sense.

The genetic material for all life — are just long chains of simple nucleotides. I think it is so degrading to the human species as a whole that some still think we came from a fucking RIB bone.

So do you do good things for the feeling it will give you knowing you improved the quality of someones life, and not for the sake of improving the quality of that persons life?

I think this highlights exactly how important the acknowledgment side of doing good deeds is

I also think who it is that you help makes a difference, a parent or sibling for example compared to a complete stranger

...buddy, that rib is the electron in symbolism. It also means 'illusion' or 'waters' or '-'. I wonder how all of those simple nucleotides, etc. managed to survive before the advent of you - must have been tough :shock:

What I asked 420Iam is WHY he came to the conclusion he did. All you did was restate what he wrote, an argument from incredulity. Actually, you changed some of the parameters. He never said life itself was impossible without a creator, but human life needed a creator and had a purpose.
Your last sentence is completely wrong as science never says life comes from chance, whatever that means. It does say that chance plays some major roles in both the formation of life and many of the events that got us to where we are today. If there never was an extinction event that killed of the highly successful dinosaurs, mammals, and therefore humans might never have gotten the foothold it needed. Does this creator make these kinds of accidents occur to guide life towards humans as an end-goal? If so, you believe in much more than a mere designer.

What if Islam is true. Can't wait to get my 70 something virgins. Just hope that they aren't 70 something Gay guys or a bunch of Nuns.

I am legitimately wondering who gave you that idea... or the source of information you stumbled upon that gave you that idea. Please provide a link.

I highly doubt... that when the bible was written by ignorant humans so long ago... that they knew what an electron was. I mean who knows really, but i highly doubt it man, lol.

Actually, as a matter of FACT, the electron wasn't discovered until 1897 man...

Also, how do you know what the writers of the bible meant when they said humans came from a rib bone... be it illusion, water, bone, metal, clay etc. Is it because you just read it some where, or thought it up? I'm not buying it bro, im sorry.

I'm guessing they meant exactly what they said, but each individual decides to create their own interpretation of how it symbolizes whatever they want it to symbolize...

^Which is absurd in my humble opinion...

I wouldn't be able to answer that since I've never been in a situation where I got absolutely nothing in return. If me helping them wouldn't make their lifes easier, help me in any way, or even cause a little bit of happiness to either person.. I would probably not do kind things since it would be pointless.

It goes the same with being rude. If being rude didn't put the other person down or if it didn't benefit you in ANY way, would you still do rude things? I wouldn't since it would be pointless again.

But then again, maybe I would because I would just be in the mood to do rude or nice things. IDK.
