what is the point of making vehicles to be able to go faster than 100mph?

although the speed limit is only maybe like 55 around my way, my car has seen over 100 many, many times.. its a thrill.. speed can be very very addictive.. you don't think i've got a username like racerboy and don't enjoy driving fast.. lmao..
not only that, but how could things like the gumball rally and the likes take place if every car in them couldnt go over a buck? would be rather boring if you ask me.. and on top of this, not all countries have speed limits like the us.. on parts of the autobahn, your speed is still only limitied by how fast your car can go and how big your balls maybe.
i do kinda understand the op's point.. why make cars faster than the legal speed limit? who knows the real answer to this.. if detroit stopped making cars capable of breaking the speed limit, who would found for all of these police dpt's who live off of the funds raised by speeders? maybe the whole thing is just a big conspiracy between the auto makers and the popo..

Modern day motorcycles are restricted by an electronic limiter that only allows the bike to hit 189mph.

So apparently you only need to go 189mph by government restrictions

hahahaha I never knew that.

The fastest I ever went was 120 in a corvette but I wasn't driving,It was still insane though.
I think the speedometer went up to 200 maybe 210.

that's one reason I like bikes..... unless you cant ride, or you go down, there should be NO ticket ;)

NO tickets with fast bikes

300mph+

It is probably because the speed rating of the tire it comes with is 189 - my jeep is goverened at 93mph because the speed rating of the tires it comes with.

They make them go fast because fast is fun :) Fastest i've done myself is 110mph in my little 1.2L, it wobbles ever so slightly

nice that is scary fast. my record was 120 in my old honda accord 92. she shook a bit scary

To be quite honest, 90-100 is my normal cruising speed on the motorway, 50-70 elsewhere, and other than the wind, i found 110 no worry at all. All i want to do now is go faster :)

155 tops here in my z28..155 is the max on the speedometer and it was pegged out... stock the speed is limited to 118 on the autos which is due to the tire rating.. running z rated now :-)

I have always wanted to ride one of those just to hear that turbine spool up. The throttle lag would scare the shit out of me though.

The highest they got the tomahawk was 300mph, any faster and you would most likely fly off. And it practically has 4 tires, and they are no where near low tech, they definitively won't be melting

i saw some tires on a hayabusa and they were rated at like 140mph... a 'busa will do like 195 without a governor i think... I saw a '99 without a governor stock/legal

That will go no where near 300mph.

Bikes suffer from ridiculous amounts of drag. Pair that will small tire contact patches and you would melt the tires before you could go that fast.

Hydro Hippy seems to have a thing about quoting theoretical speeds as fact. I can't find anything anywhere claiming a high speed run on one of those things, all i can find is estimated top speeds, and statements such as it's not been tested at that speed because the driver couldn't possibly hang on.
