what is the point of making vehicles to be able to go faster than 100mph?

this is kindof off topic from you speed demons, but when i was a kid i always asked the question "if 65 is the speed limit why can cars go 120?" it didnt make sense to me when i was 6.

but now i love blazing down the highway goin like 70mph, shits a blur

70s one thing even 85-90 in a 65 zone highway is straight... 100 if your goin for it... fun...like once in your life.. upwards of 100? seems just like why to me i guess but i just think its weird that its the standard to make vehicles go like at least 120. my stupid 92 accord back in the day hit 120. some cars are probably not even close to safe at their top spedo new...like that honda!

The highest they got the tomahawk was 300mph, any faster and you would most likely fly off. And it practically has 4 tires, and they are no where near low tech, they definitively won't be melting

Show me where they got the Tomahawk to 300 mph.

Hydro Hippy seems to have a thing about quoting theoretical speeds as fact. I can't find anything anywhere claiming a high speed run on one of those things, all i can find is estimated top speeds, and statements such as it's not been tested at that speed because the driver couldn't possibly hang on.

Exactly - 300 mph for a bike is ludicrous. A race bike bike doing around 200 mph has the back tire spinning at approx 230 because the drag of the bike is greater than the traction of the tires. That Tomahawk has no aerodynamics to speak of.

The fastest production cars in the world are stuck around 260 and they are a hell of a lot more aerodynamic than any bike.

And the comment about the tires not being low tech. At 250 mph the Bugatti Veyron melts its tires - and those tires are $38,482 for a set of 4 (no - that is not a typo Thirty eight thousand, four hundred eighty two dollars).

Lmao, really. Well ain't thatta bitch. Oh well still faster then any bike currently made. Btw if I was going so fast my tires melted it would be an accomplishment, but thats just me

to answer the original question i would suggest thinking of cars like you think of guns. if you put restrictions on the speed then criminals would be the only ones who have altered "fast cars", unless only the police were allowed to have those engines, which in america would be cause for riot. also keep in mind there are places on earth with no speed limits, parts of the autobahn (sp?) for example. besides, it is my (unpopular) opinion that speed limits in some places make the roads less safe. the same fucking morons who think it's really safe to slam on their brakes because they see a parked cruiser are the ones who are being "protected' by speed limits. i say get the fuck off the highway if you can't keep up. germany has it FIGURED OUT. you fuck around in germany and your licence is GONE, and getting it in the first place is very expensive. for this common sense they are rewarded with stretches of road where they can drive at high speeds, and the dickwads who go 45 mph in those zones are the ones who get the tickets for going so slow as to endanger other motorists.

100mph is slow...

431Km/h or 267mph that's something... :hump:
