What lighting to buy for 6-8 plants producing 26oz+ in 3' x 4' area

Also.
Does the Veg area require air cooling or should it be ok?
i am going to leave it open, but seal the flowering room.
i am going to use a 400w Metal halide in my Veg room

its a shame really cus i hyped myself up thinking i was going to be getting 4oz per plant when dry when i started my grow.
but it seems like its going to be alot harder.

so far my choices are:
1000W Aircooled HPS
400W MH Veg
Build my own Dripper system for Veg
Build my own Ebb and Flow for Flowering
dont think il be able to afford Co2 atm.
either Canna Hydro Nutes or AN

some calc thing i did earlier said i would get around 470 grams according to my level of skill/experience, Wattage, Lumen ratio etc..
hopefully all goes well.

You are talking about 1000-watts of HID lighting in an area roughly 3’ by 4’ and you think a handful of CFL’s will make an appreciable difference?

Unless you are talking about several of the large actual grow light CFLs, like 200-watts each or higher, preferably higher, the difference a handful of the home lighting CFLs that many people use for grow lights added to a 1000-watt HID in that size space would be about as much as a 3-year old boy would alter the level of Lake Superior by peeing in it.

If it was felt a mixed light spectrum would be needed different bulbs could be used at different times. For early-mid veg a straight MH, 6500K, for later veg and early flower one of the dual arc bulbs which would give off 600-watts of HPS and 400-watts of MH both at the same time from the same bulb, the single bulb in the 1000-watt system. Too finish flower, straight HPS.

If I felt the lighting of a 1000-watt system needed tweaking in that size of an area that is what I would do, instead of adding a handful of birthday cake candles to a light that puts out a great deal of light on its own.
it doesnt take any kind of science or math to realize that adding cfls around the edges of the area on the tops of plants that it will add lumens to the tops of plants furthest away from the center of the lighting. your analogies are completely off. it would make sense if i put CFLs directly underneath the HID but its obviously not the case. so before you scrutinize you might want to think about it again i've been doing this and it works awesome for finishing tops of further plants....
