What pisses you off about what is going on?

what pisses me off is the lack of knowledge and intrest about history. Be it social, music, people that came before us that did great things etc. It's an indictment on our society, it shows a lack respect of how we got to be where we are and the things we have.

Yes, definitely. Somehow certain people seem to think the same things can be done over again with different results. It's a huge part of the problem we have today.

people who can't grasp the concept of 4-way stops and whose turn is next are usually the same people riding in the left lane and blocking traffic. Can we blow them up?

Especially those who wave you on because they haven't kept track of who's next - often waving you on in the face of another's right of way -

If you ever wave a cop on, he will pull you over for sure. Even if he was there long before you. If I ever pull up at the same time as a cop, I will not hesitate to go first.

canndo, can you please elaborate on how contributing to the arts is a charitable act?
When I think of charitable acts, I think of homeless kids and starving people...

I know you think charity is giving to needy folks. I consider our entire society needy in the realm of the arts.
I am a patron of several museums and my contributions go toward paying artists for their work or paying for the storage or display of those works, the little that museums charge for admission does not cover such things and my contributions also provide for those who cannot pay or could not pay if the full cost of upkeep of those museums were taken into account. I believe that art is important for the soul of a society and also for the enlightenment and understanding of the individual

There are many who believe that if art cannot support itself commercialy then it does not need to exist. I feel that commercial art is for the most part trivial and so I believe my contributions matter.

Your average government worker does not receive as much in outright pay as your average private worker, thus the incentive they have for working for the government is those added benifits - like a pension. Now are you claiming that government workers should not get pensions, should not get any ongoing payments for services previously rendered?

Pay is irrelevant. Both parties chose the job. And no, you don't get payments for services previously rendered, unless you own your own business, or provide such incentives to others via a private business. The government has no right in making this call off the backs of other tax payers. It's unethical conduct.

A government worker should not be payed a pension on tax money period. Pensions are well known to be the leading cause of financial burden within government-based branches. USPS would be a prime example.

You should not get a working-salary, then receive a salary for not working, after you retire. If a private company wants to entertain that incentive it's fine. Again, the government offering such an incentive, is just plain unethical.

Social security causes financial irresponsibility, so do pensions. Guess who pays for both sets of financial irresponsibility? The next generation of tax payers do. Both are a sham and there is no logic that could prove otherwise.

What pisses me off about "what is going on"? That we are using oil at all and that we are doing so little to change that dynamic. That we have abandoned our space program, that we don't have a single payer health care system, that the banking industry is taking advantage of everyone individualy and collectively and that my tomatoes are being eaten by locust.

What pisses me off is people who don't understand that oil gives us much more energy per dollar spent than anything else, at this moment. Everything else is vastly more expensive.
Good luck paying for your pie-in-the-sky utopia.

Funny thing - most of the people who decry this is a Christian Nation don't want this Christian Nation to help the needy.

What pisses me off is people who generalize about other people and start their sentences with "Funny thing...".

Again, those who claim that this is a Christian nation do not abide by this nation doing Christian things, like helping the needy. We aren't talking about the dawn of civilization because only a very few countries claim to be Christian. If this were a religion neutral country, like the left claims then there could be no argument, but it isn't according to the right. According to them it was founded and continues to be heavily Christian and yet those who claim that are dead set against this Christian nation involving itself in charity.

What pisses me off is ignorant statements like that.

We mustn't stray here. It could be easily argued that a government is not necessarily charged with helping the needy within that country's borders. However, once that nation is claimed to be Christian then it doesn't make sense that they be forbidden to act as any Christian body must.

This pisses me off, too.

What separation is that? The right holds that there is only a one way mirror and not a wall at all, in otherwords, The Fed is not to start a church and is not to interefere with church business. Other than that, this is supposed to be a Christian nation, we can enforce prayer in schools, have religious symbols placed in any public place, contribute directly to individual "churchy" things, allow discrimination in church funded situations and all the rest. If this is true, then why is government not charged with doing the work of Jesus as well?

Your ignorance is pissing me off.

I am speaking of what the right contends should be the situation in our country. My argument is simple, if as they say, we are a Christian nation in action as well as sentimentality then we, as a Christian nation can be charged with acting in a Christian manner.

The right seems to want it both ways, we are a Christian nation but should act only in a nonsectarian way when it comes to our responsibility to our neighbor.

MAN, am I pissed.

you continually lump "the right" as an entity in your disparaging remarks and bemoan if you get labelled. They give on average twice what "the left" gives to charities. Maybe if "the left" would put their money where their mouths were charities could handle more of the problem. And if you guys were as pure and generous as you claim you should far exceed let alone equal.

It's hypocrisy, you are only generous with Other people's money. Take it from them!

I believe those that worship at the alter of the government have issues with individual responsibilities.

Damn good post... +rep... does NOT piss me off

Yet, none of these conservatives neglect to deduct those charitable contributions.

But you still aren't getting the point here, I must not be saying it clearly enough.

If we are a Christian nation than we should act like a Christian nation and, as a nation, as a government, contribute to helping poor people.

... still pissed
