whats the secret to maximum trichome production?

A recent past grow I had 4 strains in one 4x4 and my Northern Lights gave me 3 seeds and my NYS gave me 2 seeds. All of the NL seeds have been germed and are now in veg
But here is my Frosty "The Church".

One proven way to get higher trich count is too use HO-T5s (red). They did a side by side experiment in a last years High Times and the T5s put on twice the amount of frost but the nugs where smaller and not as dense as the HPS.

Hey guys. Lots of great info here. You guys are all fighting for one right answer though; there isn't. Trichomes have many functions. We should clear some things up before a lot of people get the wrong idea.
Trichomes are the plants defense mechanism against stress, problems retaining water (like guy above said), insects and herbivores. They do not block sunlight but instead they prevent the loss of water in the fan leaves at the top of the plant where light is most intense to help cool it down. They dont block the light, they are just a moist cloth on the plant's forehead if you want to use a shitty metaphore. If you want to read a really cool article on how stress affects trichome production, check this out: http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=141572

Bro that plant is ridiculous! Here I'm all stoked on my little girl that I purposely tried to keep small due to space limitations (that I don't have anymore) and look at that!!! Congrats man, congrats...

idk..maybe it's just the white light helping to see the frost better....lol...now i do think lesser light helps.

Genetics is the key for frosty plants.....don't get me wrong their are plenty things you can use to increase trichome production......I use Purple Maxx snowstorm with proven results....

Check it out both pics same strain Banana Bang 40 days flowering no P maxx Snowstorm

33 days into flowering with P maxx Snowstorm

Awesome..Your going to love the slh. And as for the Church, she needs constant cleaning of little thin stems. Like take your cuts 2 weeks before going 12/ and take off the bottom 3rd. Easy like not so much in one day.
Then 2 weeks into 12/ clean her up again, and keep on her. Now she has been in for 65 days and still (trichs) looks like she can go another 7-10 days and just today I the bracts (calyx's) are swelling, so maybe closer to 5-7 days more, but the trichs are clearish/cloudy so maybe 7-10 days? Love the way she keeps me on my toes lol.

Your thrichromes are your sticky element for catching pollen. When a female is ready to reproduce, it forms the trichromes. When a male is ready, it forms pollen sacs. The pollen is released, sticks to your yummy trichs... And produces a yukky seed. It takes that female resin and male pollen to naturally produce the seed.

Strain is the real answer to your trichrome count.
In the later stages of female viability, this may be, but keep in mind that male flowers form way faster than female. The fact that Female buds contain many fold the amount of THC does show a tendency that it is associated in reproduction. the exact reasoning is still debated, as nt much research has been able to be carried out due to the restrictions on it.

It is funny, one of the longest use herbal remedies, used worldwide for thousands of years, was only outlawed across the world in the last 80 years.....

The trichomes are not what catches the pollin, they are simple a defense mechanism used to protect the plant and its flower from animals, harsh heat and intence UV rays.
the pistils (white hairs) are what catches the pollen in turn creating a seed.
humidity a good light source and cool temps are the essential elements for prime trichome production.

Good genetics is what makes trichome production happen. I can grow a strain like lemon haze or sharksbreath with the absolute worst care, overfeeding it, no water for days, too hot, what ever and they still get smothered in triches. No noticible difference in potency.

Just stick with growing a healthy plant and the resin will come.

And please, people......start reading some botanical books of some kind... Atleast visit ICMAG.com and read some experienced authors.
There is a lot of misinformation on this one thread alone...

this is an old ass thread but i thought i'd post with my results...

I lowered my RH from 60 to roughly 30-35% RH by putting a dehumidifier in. My buds have more trichs in week 2 than they did in week 5. Temp is down about 3 degree's but I dont think that is the major difference

Old ass thread, again, BUT, I look at old threads for opinions all the time. People ask all the time how to frost up their plants. The skinny is this: if your grow room is set up properly and you have good genetics, you will get very frosty. If you add some more purplish light at the end, you will get maybe a little more frosty. If you add something like Snow Storm or Bud Factor X, you will get more frosty. Bud Factor X contains harpin protein which is created by a weak strain of E. coli (no shit) and its mode of frosting your plants is to activate the plant's immune system, if you will. When the plant's immune system is activated, it will create more trichomes. That make sense? As for Snow Storm I'm not exactly sure how it works but people tell me it does so I'll take it. I use an aerated reservoir so I don't think I can try it (breaks down in the oxygen pretty quickly), plus I use Bud Factor X and it is pretty freakin' awesome.
