Where did the skunk go?

Afghani isn't the RKS, it's possibly got some Afghani in it. I'm growing an Affie from 1990 and it has more of a gas/burnt rubber smell. Like Headband. There is a 'background' smell stinking up my place of skunk, but I also have an 89NL in the same closet that has a more fruity tropical smell, not sure which one has the skunk but I also suspect the actual RKS people claim to have once had are other strains entirely, but related. I have Mendo Madness, Devil, Fourway, Shoreline, Trinity, Holy Grail Kush, Sensi Star... the list goes on. I gathered up all info on said subject and purchased every strain that people on these forums swear is skunky in odor... so I'm slowing going through the process of checking them for that distinct smell.

I also think there are certainly bags of harvested/cured sour diesel, cheese, etc, perhaps many many strains that reek and can stink up an entire room through a bag with that smell. I constantly smell it in the city I live in and all these people aren't smoking the same stuff..
I guess you mean afghani#1? Cos you more chance of finding it in landrace or heirlooms vs afghani#1 or you meaning afghaan 90 from kwikseeds?

Yes, Afgaan 90 by Kwik Seeds. If you read, its an Afgan heirloom from Holland in 1990. It's likely similar to an old Afgan #1. I only know what it smells like and it has a lot of similarity to the rank gas/burnt rubber odors that a lot of modern strains exhibit.

What happened to Skunk? Shitty growers running seed companies and medical dispensaries for 3 decades straight, as their poor understanding of Cannabis metabolism led them to new, degenerated flavor profiles. Growing Cannabis like fruit and vegatables (plant matter, sugars and aromatic derivatives) instead of like Cannabis (fats oils proteins and aliphatic derivatives.) Now all that's left is fruit, cheese, sour, sweetie, garlic, rubber, and piss, in endless variation, of which most should not congest the menu.

Piss is ammonia

But I do notice ALOT of people are mixing that nasty skunk smell with gas.

Gassy/og smells are not skunk
Catpiss does not smell like ammonia. Or what I'd call terpeney in anyway. It smells like black currant, white spruce, and boxwood thiols. 4-mercapto-4methyl pentan-2one, 3-Sulphanylpentan-1-ol, p-mentha-8-thiol-3-one, 4-methoxy-2-methyl-2-butanethiol, etc.

Which is why some people think it's skunk; their body can physically detect the functional group but their brain can't discern the carbon count. There was a guy in California who spent years collecting and selecting what he thought was Skunk only to find out it was basic bitch rubber to everyone he showed it to. Because rubber is also a thiol.

Today is even worse, under legalization its became very clear most people cannot tell the smell of plastic from gas from citrus. They just detect alkenes/alkanes. So, these lame breeders can sell literally anything, call it any thing. It's just going to get fucked up by the nutes anyway and smell like a pair of new shoes fucked a tennis ball on a new mattress wearing condom.

When will Coca-Cola ditch Coke Classic and replace it with Garlic Grape Coke? Never. So why are breeders replacing the classics with seasonal crap? Rootbeer GMO?? Same reason some beer brewers do. Convince the world that Skunk is out dated, and cycle through a bunch of inferior crap that you can't even recreate next year. It all tastes the same to the target audience anyway; people who don't actually like weed past it being an accessory, like a Gucci bag or a Supreme t-shirt.

I think when most people say cat piss they’re thinking of that litter box smell, not the smell after a fresh squat.

Cat piss, piss in general, has an ammonia scent to it. The real deal cat piss was a clone only plant passed around in San Diego. It was one of a few SD clones I couldn't locate while I lived there, (found Hogs Breath, P91, Afghani Bullrider). There was a Norcal version also, supposedly, and I think they came from Hawaii. definitely not that 'skunk' odor but just from what I've read... I'd put it on my list of strongest, most pungent smelling plants...

Idk what you’re making up. But cat piss reaks of ammonia. Almost like a nasty acid spray. And it’s common. I dislike it very much lol. You have a great day tho.

The skunkiest stuff I've grown since skunk 1 in 2002 has been power kush by dinafem and my old pheno of lvtk.

Power kush and lvtk only smelled skunky. Not flavor though but neither would come close to the skunk #1 and that probably doesn't come close to old Kentucky skunk.

Pretty much any of my weed smells skunky if I take it somewhere in a bag. At home, I have stuff with terp profiles all over the place, berry, earthy, citrus, gassy - I take it somewhere in a plastic bag...it reeks of skunk. Anyone else have this experience?
Back in the day some growers used to sweat their bud with plastic bags. Part of the old school cure.

Gas is not skunk

They’re actually documenting study that claims gassy, and skunky compounds. There’s no single Terpene that provides that scent. Just google it. Tons of info on the subject.
