Which breeder has a true Nl #5? For a fair price and it is actual quality

As confusing as the whole NL thing goes, there are still good choices out there. I recently grew Sensi's Northern Lights. Anyone who says it's no good is an idiot who doesn't know what the hell they are talking about. British Columbia Seed Company was and is still famous for their NL #5. Many people agree that BCSC's NL# 5 was the best of all the NL strains you could get from a seed company. They are both great, and I personally would not waste my time growing any other version. I am not knocking other companies, but anything they have was created out of Sensi's or BCSC'S genetics anyway. NL#5 seeds are hard to find because they sell out so fast,If you see them, don't waste time deciding on whether you want them or not, just buy them!

Interesting that this thread came back; thought its worth mentioning 303 ceeds' Aurora project.

The company is based in Colorado. Their breeding group has gathered a number of authentic older NL cuts and ceeds, and has crossbred them in an attempt to recreate an authentic original Northern Lights into contemporary ceed form. "Aurora Borealis" being synonymous with Northern Lights.

Getting your hands on a pack may not be easy, but if I were interested in an "authentic" NL I'd be taking a good look at these.

Figured I should post the update, Peakseeds NL is exactly as advertised. Reminds me of old school NL. Not as strong as I remember, but I only had 3 phenotypes to choose from. I'd say it's probably worth hunting and even if it what I got is as good as it gets it brought me back down memory lane. Warm all over euphoric buzz. Mild piney/sweet smell. Nice bud structure etc. Not as long lasting as I remember but I last smoked on what I could say was probably legit NL in high school.

Peakseeds did exactly what Jogro describes above. He did a good job IMO. Maybe they will do better.

Using all the tricks he possibly could. 10 years old isn't so bad. I've cracked 10 year old seeds, not great germination ratios, but still got some plants. Had some Nirvana Ice from 10 years ago and some Sweet C99 from BOG from over 10 years ago got 1/10 to pop from each.

And I didn't really go all out on them but I did give them good environmental conditions and did what i could. There are hormones and such you can use to help the process along as well, I didn't use any of them.

I don't know what Shanti did here, but I suspect he probably did nothing unusual. . .just run the se-eds into optimal temps and humidity. Also, you don't necessarily need a high germination/viability rate if you're starting with hundreds or thousands of beans.

As to 10 year old beans, so long as they're stored right you can get decent germ rates. I actually posted a report on a 12+ year old "schwagg" se-ed I dug out of storage then grew to harvest, and I was fairly pleased with the results. You can see the link in my signature, below.

Wow, checking in a year later and this post got 9 pages. Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone. I have still been dicking around with the NL from Nirvana. But I have been savin my bones, so when I move, I will probably by sensi seeds version ( I think its like upwards of 100 bucks or so) . I do like the NL (nirvana) pheno I have. Very much indica dom ( pretty couch lock stone :) ) , but it is so freaking sensitive with nutes, I want something a little more hardy and not as finicky. Cheers and happy holidays!

I popped some sensi NL a few weeks ago. Just make sure that you don't have problems with mold because what I have sprouted so far has taken up to 10 days to germinate and sprout ( at 80F in coco choir). The plants so far are a nice dark green with a skunky smell....not what I would call low odour.

Get some here!! Hell if #5 is fruity smellin and purple colored, and #1 was white frosty, I know cause I have a old High Times from 89. NL#1 won that year lol!!!
Anyways why bother looking for it, just get Blue Mystic and look for a stubby runty plant, one that just seems to never grow or branch, just one big cola pheno, that pheno I almost killed, but turned out
the most grape soda smelling dank thing I ever smoked!!! Why go looking for a pure#5 when it combined so perfectly with blueberry. The stretchy sativa sided Blue Mystic had the same smell, but just wasn't as
dank as the one foot runt I grew. Perhaps the Auto Blue mystic was bred out to be this pheno.

303B4D72-CED3-4D8E-A031-1603225E52BF.jpeg Here’s some of Bodhi’s ‘89NL5 x BCSC NL5. Not the frostiest, but that doesn’t mean a thing. This pheno smells like lime, pepper, forest floor, and hash. Smoke is extremely tasty hashy/woody/herbaceous. Showed a few strains I grew to JJ NYC at the Dude Grows Cup and that seemed to be the jar he kept reaching to and smelling... if that means anything.

Sorry for the lack of dry bud pics. I’ll try to remember to grab a nug out of the jar and snap a shot. Really excited for the crosses I made with it. This was the only strain I chose to pollenate with 2 males. Bagged and tagged, only did one small bud with the Durban Punch, and then a full branch with the Sakura. Luckily no seeds popped up on untagged branches, so that gives me hope that there aren’t any mix ups, but that’s what testers are good for... the effect of this mama is really Uber relaxing, back of my neck and my whole body noticeably loosens up. Reason I thought to type this is bc I smoked some and did a search on anyone else that’s grown it that found this pheno... but can’t find any reports.

Anyway, if you can find a pack of this... sell it to me. Love, Love, Love this line
