Which is better for seedlings; 8 bulbs w/ 208watts or 6 bulbs w/ 286watts?

Hey all, long time troll here. I finally have a specific question I can't wrap my head around. Need someones help please. ;)

I am putting together my first veg only cabinet and using only CFLs for the first time. Currently I am only vegging 8 seedlings (like 7 days old).

My light setup was 8 26watt = 208 watts 1600 Lumens, 6500k. Bright Effects, from Lowes.

Last night I changed the setup to 6 26watt + 2 65watt = 286 watts. The 2 65watt bulbs are 3900 Lumens each, but unknown k. Bright Effects brand bought at Lowes again, I scoured RUI and found this https://www.rollitup.org/cfl-growing/98164-300-watt-cfl-lowes.html

It is pretty much unknown what k these 65 watt bulbs are. But the light is very orange/red colored. So I know no matter what the are optimum for vegging... but the do produce more lumens.

Anyway I am second guess making this switch in my setup, and am even considering taking the bulbs back because of the unknown k. Or keeping them for additions to my 400 hps. Not sure what to do with them....help.

Do I switch my setup back to all white 6500k light with less lumens or what????

THANKS! :leaf:

You could be running one of the $25 econolight 150hps's and getting 15k lumens from just one... Or 30k from two.

I bet you have more money than that into the bulbs you are using now.

Yeah your right actually, but this is the CFL forum :} I added it up currently I have only 12,800 lumens, but truly have only the cost of the bulbs into the setup.

I wounder how hot these 150hps get in a small box. I went with the CFL because I was interested in the cool running bulbs able to get so close to the plants. I am so impressed right now with how the nodes are just stacking up under these CFLs! I used a 400watt MH years ago for veg, it was hot and had to stay far away which caused alot of stretching.
