Which LED would you recommend for 5x5 tent?

like i said....there are lots of great lights on the market today...DIY-Fluence-Mars-SpiderFarmer-Chilled-HLG-Timber and thats just to name a few...i say buy or build what best suits your grow situation... I have grown with HLG boards which are great lights...but I have low ceilings 8 feet...so i like the bar/strip style fixtures the best. Chilled Tech makes some incredible lights, I have a friend thats grows with them..certainly couldn't go wrong with them...but for me and my money...Like I said before I am an Optic LED fan..I love the 3 way spectrum control ..and the 10 year warranty gives me peace of mind...Good luck to you..Lets GO team Optic!!

-1 half sheet of 1/4 plywood (4x4') + a few strips of lumber (one 8' 2x4 cut in half, etc) to reinforce the panel from flexing. Maybe some paint to seal it from moisture.

Then, I would spread out the base sockets in rows, making them equal distances from each other, and attach them to the bottom of the plywood panel. Probably 48 of them. I would wire the sockets up in parallel, and make it so I could switch off some of the rows for half power/full power with the flip of a switch.

Then, screw in 48 of household LED bulbs into the base sockets.

I would be happy I spent less than $200 on a true 650-750 watt LED light fixture, and use the money I saved on other equipment, like a chiller or automated c02 controller or something. I would be humble about it though, and not dog on the guys that spent way more for their fancy looking fixtures of the same wattage that the LEDS can't even be replaced and run 50% brightness after 5-10 years, lol.

Last but not least, I would train a perfectly flat canopy in a scrog net, filling the 5x5 tent wall to wall with bud sites, and hit around 1.5 grams per watt (2 lb + easy) at harvest.

Maybe sell a lb and buy a new commercial fixture, but why when I could build 4 more screw in LED fixtures for the price of 1?

Screw ins are not a bad choice for a cheap light, but the efficacy will be low compared to a proper fixture. If indeed the power dropped by 50% in a quality led fixture (which i doubt) it would still have as good or better efficacy than screw ins.

The commercial fixtures being recommended here aren't a bad choice either, for expensive lights. I'm sure they've came along way, but I personally can't seem to justify spending more than 20 cents per watt knowing I can make my own that work good enough for me. LED diodes wear out, and I would feel scammed spending more than I do, but that's just me. Efficacy= $$$$. At the end of the day I don't care about all the technical aspects, and could keep replacing bulbs for fairly cheap, allowing me to maintain the highest output even if its not as good as commercial grade that is worn out.

I actually enjoy the DIY aspect of putting things together from scratch. Just figured I would add another perspective to this thread, and offer an idea that is actually safer than the way I cobble together my own homemade LED fixtures. Heck, I even make my own chillers, and turn window ACs into mini splits, etc. Design crazy hybrid hydroponic systems no one has ever seen, and I don't even want to show off unless I patent them first. If there is some expensive piece of equipment or gear, I'm always trying to DIY my own and save 1000's. I like the challenge most of all, and spending time over money.

I take the diffuser globes off which substantially increases the lumen output, but does expose you to getting zapped on the head (I clip off the 2 sharp "cattle prod's" excess prongs that stick out, and cover with a glob of RTV. I also don't use the base sockets to keep my cost under .20-.25 per watt, and just bust off the threaded screw part off the end of the bulb, and directly wire to the thin internal wires with crimps. Drill holes through a panel and use high temp RTV silicone to glue the bulbs rim on, instead of screwing them in. I'm not recommending that anyone do that unless they are pretty handy with electronics, and probably would feel responsible if it caused harm/damage from my advice if they weren't.

They way I described earlier is pretty safe. If you can't wire up a simple lamp circuit, making a SIL grow light fixture can be a fun way to learn how..

For my next 2 fixtures, I'm actually air cooling the hacked up screw in bulbs to increase the lifespan. More like a channeled out box than just a panel.

The pantherx2 is 640w and says does up to 5x5, is 1600umols and under 500 american. BC blondes have awesome light too. So many out there the 1000w Co2 is killer. Or Fohse A3 at 4500umols plus but 5 grand too. Fluence has kick ass lights too. Or DIY it and you can make lights exactly how you want to. And as powerful as you want.

IF I had the money I would use 3 SanLight Evo 5-150.

I don't know if he even read the posts, lol. The 1000 watt ChilLED I was talking about is the exact same X6 as the the one for a 4x4 but with a bigger driver. 1000 watts vs 600. They have dimmers. The 1000 would work in a 4x4 too, but could also power larger areas. It's not that complicated,

I see no issues running 1000w lights at 550 or 600w, rather benefits.
They'll last longer and you'd still have another gear or two if you ever see the day where the performance shrinks.

Yep. But you always have the option to turn it up. If I bought a light for a 4x4 right now that's what I'd get. But I have plenty of lights already.

I did. I was wondering though, say you did get 1000w Chilled x6 bar for your 5x5. Seeing how the 660w or whatever is a x6 bar too (unless the 1000w is jamb packed with more diodes), is the 1000w really anymore efficient then the 660w when you dim it to 660w.? Overpowered lights are only Overpowered because they're desighned poorly to save money don't you think? Plus you'll probably want another 100w of supplemental at least for the 660w x6 bar as it is right? Just curious as to growers thoughts on the x6 bar in both wattages and sizes?

Absolutely amazing light!
My wife and I bought the sf4000 for our first indoor grow to extend our vegetable growing season. We got the light last wednesday, today is the 5th day and there is a huge difference already! We are growing Kajari melons in a 4x4 tent. If you are wanting a high quality light from a great brand, then look no further. Seriously an amazing light!!
I'm currently running my 2nd SF4000 in my 4x8 and it's a tank. The ladies seriously love it. No more larfy buds lol. I previously ran Mars Hydro and Spider Farmer and this Sonofarm light blows them outta the water. I also like that they're a US based company as dealing with international companies regarding warranty issues is like pulling teeth and the 5 year warranty is huge.
