no where near. and u actually need more wattage in cfls to equil a 400 watt mh for veg. dont rec using cfls for flower. grab like three 120 cfm pc fans and mount two to the top and one at the bottom. the lower sucking in and the tops blowing out. should keep ur room a comfortable 70-75 degrees in ur room when the lights are on. u would need a ton of cfls to equil that 400 mh. each 26 watt bulb has about 1800 lumens max. ur 400 is about 33000 lumens. u would need 19 bulbs at about almost 500 watts. plus they have to be really close and when u have that many bulbs in a box u will need to have exhaust fans anyways. it will get about the same temps as the 400 with that many bulbs. the 400 has way more penetrating power than cfls ever will, plus if u get the right ballast u can toss an hps bulb in it for flower too and use the mh for veg. if u get a digital ballast avoid anything that needs a fan to cool itself. most good ballasts wont need fans to cool themselves becuz they tend to run cooler anyways. a fan inside of a digital ballast is just a weak point in my opinion.
my 2x2x4 is about 82 degrees inside with the fans on and only 300 watts in it. think about how many u will need to hit 500 watts? i only run 9 bulbs in it right now. and some are bigger 48 and 68 watt bulbs. i think.
oh and get a wallmounted thermometer to monitor ur temps in the beggining till u get everything fully dialed in. u can get a cheap one with humidity meter on it for like 3 bucks at home depot or wallmart in the garden section and u might want to paint the walls white or get some mylar in it for reflectivity. looks ballin tho good job bro.
imma just keep running the MH on em instead of switching to cfls, when i was using floros the difference with using the MH was incredible, but do u know any hardware stores that will sell the fans? home depote and lowes carry tons of duct work but absolutly no fans its pointless i can only find em online. ive also been spending some time covering the walls with mylar so its nice an reflective,
also about those digital ballast, ive never really messed with a digital i actualy wasnt even aware of the different types until just recently, what does the digital do? also with my MH the ballast is seperate so i can put that off to the side to keep some heat down, it wont even have to be in the box, but usualy with any sort of cooling aspect im pretty good when it comes to it, and the lights im getting are pretty top of the line so they should stay pretty cool.
with running my 250 mh in that 7x3 spot i could actualy if i wanted to drop the temp down to 65 steady, but i just leave a few of the fans unplugged an plug em in whenever i need to, i got it all hooked up waiting for those two 600 hps which i should be getting in a few days, im almost ready to send those 4 into flower theyre about 12" or so, only took about a month to which was straight.
but yah man that 3x3 is awesome, it fits perfectly rite where i intended it to fit, i just godda cut a few holes an turn it into a proper grow space, its built but its still only halfway done i hope to get it goin pretty soon after these 4 head into flower. but thanks for the idea dude foreal its straaiight
