No, some soil growers grow as much or more than some hydro growers. Soil just takes longer so in turn it does lower your yearly yield since you get less grows in. Plant for plant the yields are about the same, just the length of time is longer. I've seen some monstrous soil grows on this site. Personally hydro is the way to go.

but if ur only doing 6 plants yea, grow trees for sure!
also, a pound per plant sounds like a lot to me, but not impossible, just unlikely...
outdoors, 1 pound per is easy cheesey with the right gear and location.
