i understand where your coming from but you can, once it "hits" you, you'll never forget. ive always told people to not worry about the weed that falls out of the paper, or the ends in whole, grind that bud,put it in the middle of the bent paper, slowly pull it to the edge and twist that shit up from the middle outward, but if all else fails, take a rip from the ol bong.

all it takes is the right person showing you the right technique, then practice practice practice....
I learned how to roll badass cones from a french dude I met in yosemite... I could roll /ok/ before that, but now I roll perfect cones... if you do try to roll cones focus on the hitting end, if you make the hitting end perfect, the cone shape automatically comes next.

Its fairly simple once you get a system together, I havnt rolled a banger(a shit joint) in ages now, as they say practice makes perfect.

Well said mate, i find the fatter the joint the easyer it is to flip, like with a cone the once you flip the center the fat end should flip over very easily.
