Measure the difference between the bottom of the light when its as high as it goes to the floor so now you are left with 6ft then subtract another 1ft as the minimum gap between the top of the plants (canopy) and the light so now you have 5ft left. Then measure the height of the pots tops from the floor (i am guessing another 1ft) so you have 4ft between the stem base of your plants and the most they will grow to (MAX 3 times there veg height). So having 4ft to play with start vegging them at about 1ft tall to be safe.

I always grow single cola top plants and you simply just grow them without cutting/bending/pruning etc. If you just let them grow the top cola will become massive and elongate as it grows.
This is one of mine just planted and left alone and this is it ready.

I have a 2x4x5 mylar tent and I'm wondering...

How much light would be perfect for this size? 2 feet x 4 feet x 5 feet high. Mylar everywhere even the ceiling and floor. Thanks!​

You could run a 400w with the right extraction and climate control but without an extractor fan a 250w will do you fine.

i dont think ill be getin triple in size on my first go lol,but aye ya never no i could get triple the size haha :)

oh ye i forgot to ask you!once i go in to flower do i keep the light about 18 inch off the plants,also shal i give them full strenth nuterients?cheers.what ph and ec would you be using at a foot tall

Thats just a good way to measure how high you can veg them before the flip 12/12.
If you want them big veg until they are 15" tall.

okay im back the first two plants were scratched/dumped and for new seeds that have germinated having just touched up on some propagation techniques and am now familiar with it
just curious which works better having the light on so the seeds see the light and sprout quicker or no light and just warmth

No you keep the jiffys and propogator in the dark untill they sprout from the soil then once popped straight under the lights for me.
You can have light on them as the light wont penetrate the soil on top of the seed but i keep mine in the dark.

thanks again YB much appreciated.... its weird, have plenty of experience w/poppies and other plants, just the beloved cannabis that seems for some reason difficult to grow...probably putting too much thought into it lol

Hydro vs. Organic

I have to respectfully disagree that hydroponics will yield higher than organics. There is a difference between growth rate and the yield. Because something grows faster does not mean it yields more in the same space. If you factor in time for veg growth, hydroponics will have the edge in yield. If you have a separate veg area, that timing issue is irrelevant.

Having greater aromatics is a matter of opinion and relative to growing skill and methods. When done correctly, organics (organic nutrients, soilless mixes) produce buds that smell just as strong as those grown hydroponically. I will concede that hydro-grown plants do have a slightly faster growth rate, but to solidly state that they yield more overall, I believe is misleading.

The reason that I switched to organics was because I didn't see enough difference in either growth or anything else to warrant the need for so much monitoring and expensive meters and nutrients. I think that the only provable plus to hydroponics is growth rate.Whereas the cons are chemical aftertaste in the flavour of buds, extreme susceptibility to over/under fertilization, very high initial investment, many things to break and clog, etc.

If grown in a nice airy organic soil mix and watered with good organic amendments, growth enhancers and beneficial fungi (mycorrhizae), you will easily compete with that of a hydroponic system. Your end result will be full flavored, non-chemical tasting buds. They can be arguably, slightly more potent due to the fact that, as of now, science cannot compete with Mother Nature and naturally occurring elements.

Bottom line - unless you are obsessed with fittings, toys and technology (and many are) organics can grow nearly as fast, just as big (if not bigger), better tasting and IMHO more potent buds. And they do this with very little initial investment, and are very forgiving of newbie mistakes.
